Seryntas reeled at the blow to the jaw, and stumbled a bit. The knee to the stomach did extraordinarily little damage, as the protection of the abdomen is a major concern in the creation of plate armor. However, it did serve to unbalance the teetering bounty hunter even more, and the big man went down like a 280-pound sack of potatoes. "Lucky punch!" he exclaimed as he tried to get to his feet despite the armor and the dizziness. He failed at first.

Xiao Long gave an experimental tug on the rope, and foudn that it was limp. She quickly jumped back to avoid the arrow that was now rapidly descending on her head. She decided that she was difinitely not going to get up from there. So, she decided to climb up the old fashioned way. She put Kilisha down on the floor, and pulled out two daggars. She plunged one into the earth at her midsection, and gave a tug downward on it.Seeing that it was stable, she plunged another one in, at about chest height. She jumped up onto the lower daggar, and quickly jammed another dagar into the dirt, creating a stairwell. She only needed to get to the piece of rope that still dangled in the air.

(OOC: I was doing a bit of reading from the posts before and realized, I didn't haqve my bow when I went down into the tunnel... meaning I couldn't possibly have been able to fight the tentacle thing with my bow.... Nobody bothered to mention this, but I guess I'll go fix that.)

Having knocked the human down, the demon took a moment to glance around, looking for its sword. When it didn't see it anywhere, the creature became oddly disturbed.

"H-hey! W-where'd my sword g-go?" it asked out loud, its voice sounding pretty nervous.

Kilisha watched as Xiao Long made her way up to the bottom of the rope. The succubus wondered why the girl had so many daggers. Must be a collector, she thought.

As she grabbed the end of the dangling rope, she secured another rope she'd gotten out of her pack onto the end of the existing one. This extension brough the rope down to the groud. She slid down, all the while retrieving the daggers she'd dug into the wall, and grabbed Kilisha. Seeing that she was stil too weak to get up the rope by herself, she decided to tie the end of the rop around Kilisha's waist.

She started her climb up the rope, thanking her luck that the rope was still tightly bound aroudn the other dagger above. She l;ooked into her pack, where she had thirty daggers stored nicely and neatly. Father always told me to bring extra daggers, she thought, Never know when you might need them, he always said.

After getting to the top, she saw that Seryntas was involved in a heated battle with the incubus. Well, no wonder he didn't come down to help. She stood up, and began pulling Kilisha up the hole, watching out for any problems Seryntas's opponent might cause to her.

Seryntas got to his feet (finally) and picked his sword back up. "A friend of mine's got your sword, probably in some other dimension. Looks like it's just you, and me..."

...and the powers of my god...

Seryntas held his sword out in front of him and began to chant. "Eviros geh gesera tonter tikeh van varas esioro yeas tel kanrae!" The irises of Seryntas' eyes, normally brown, began to glow red as the power of Minor Burning Wrath filled his muscles. "Let's dance!"

Kilisha winced as she was pulled from the ground and dug into her skin a little. Apparently, she was feeling more sensitive than normal. With what strength she had, she grabbed the rope and held onto it, hoping to lessen the amount of her weight that was tightening the loop around her waist. Unfortunately, she didn't have very much strength to work with.

The demon didn't seem to pay any attention to Seryntas. Instead, it just stared blankly in his direction. Then, suddenly, it let out a long and painfully shrill wail and ran for the hole that Xiao Long was emerging from.

As soon as she heard the wail, a strange feeling came over Kilisha and she felt herself pass out and go limp for a moment. However, the pain from the rope intensified as soon as she went limp, and this brought her back almost instantly.

Seryntas spun, following the demon, and attempted to catapult into him headfirst, trusting his magically-invigorated legs to pull together appreciable amounts of force.

Xiao Long turned at the sound of the oncoming incubus, and gave a hurried yelp. Time seemed to slow around her as she tried to coem up with some options. She couldn't let go of the rope and run, nor could she fight him off with only one hand. She then saw Seryntas flyign through the air after him, and put her trust in the large screaming man. She continued to hurriedly pull Kilisha up by rope.

Seryntas slams into the incubus as intended, knocking the creature to the ground with a thud. The demon tries for a moment to pick itself back up, but only collapses to the ground again. It then reaches forward with its arm and drags itself one more foot closer to the hole, but then passes out.

As Kilisha nears the top of the hole, she begins to feel her weakness wearing off. It seems that every inch she ascends brings more of her strength back, as if the hole, or something in it, was what caused her sickness. By the time she reaches the top, she is able to grab onto the side and pull herself out almost on her own.

Seryntas got to his feet with considerably less effort of will than before and pulled Kilisha the rest of the way out of the hole. "What happened down there?" he asked, mind still on overdrive from the spell.

Once out of the hole, Kilisha took a few steps away from it and then sat down to rest and catch her breath. She then set about trying to answer Seryntas' question.

"That... monster down there... tried to steal my soul," she said. "If Xiao Long... hadn't gotten there when she did..."

Kilisha's voice suddenly trailed off and she looked dazed for a minute. She shook it off again after a moment, though, then looked over at the passed out incubus.

"It's a good thing you didn't... let him into that hole," she said, speaking in a voice that sounded like she had just woken up from a dream.

Xiao Long had finally run out of the childish energy than ran through her normally and slumped down on the ground.

"Hey," she started, "What happened to the old guy?"

"He was looking at this bastard's" - he indicated the prostrate incubus - "sword, and decided that he needed to grab it and disappear into some alternate dimension or something like like. It's probably heavily magical or something. Here, help me move him to where his buddies are. Anyone have a rope? We can tie them up."

Xiao Long got up and helped Seryntas with the two incubi, tieing them up with the rope Kil and she had climbed up. Xiao Long then looked into her pack and looked sad. I'm running out of rope....

After the three incubi were successfully restrained, Kilisha finally climbed to her feet. At the same time, Jeshua reappeared out of thin air, holding his staff in one hand and the sword that he had seemed so interested in before in the other. He now tossed the sword aside haphazardly.

"We need to continue north now," he said.

"I believe you caught that monster when it was off guard," Jeshua said to Xiao Long. "It was probably busy with Kilisha when you attacked it, and you probably weakened it when you shot the appendage that was draining her."

Kilisha, of course, immediately began to wonder how Jeshua knew what had happened in the cavern.

"It would be best if we got away from this mountain before the monster recovers. We must go north because that is where we will find the... focal point of our mission," Jeshua concluded.

"Wait... how did you--" Kilisha began...

"As for the demons," Jeshua interrupted, "it would seem that their 'master' is going to be our enemy. We can't bring them with us, and if we let them live, they could report our presence in his territory. We obviously have no choice but to eliminate them."

Kilisha let out a soft growl of irritation after being interrupted, but she let it pass. Her attention came to the three incubi as the wizard spoke of them. She felt a strange sense about them, almost like... recognition. Suddenly, her eyes grew momentarily wider and, jumping to her feet, she ran over and kneeled down beside them.

"They... they're like... me!" she exclaimed. "... Changed..."

Xiao Long sat down on a nearby rock, and watched Kilisha bound over to the incubi. She wondered what was going to happen next, and how the heck did he kmnow what had happened in the tunnel? Xiao Long eyed the old man suspiciously. Better keep my eye on this guy...

Seryntas didn't wonder. As he'd tried to explain to Xiao Long and as Kilisha ought to know, it wasn't their place to wonder. Just do what the boss says, don't die, and try to get paid partly in advance if you can - that was advice Seryntas learned on his first merc job, and he wasn't about to forget it.

He drew his sword and approached the bodies on the floor. "Hey, any particular way I'm supposed to kill these guys?" he asked. "I mean, they ain't human."

"You should probably still be able to do it the same way you would a human," said Jeshua.

Kilisha, meanwhile, leaned in closer to one of the incubi. She could definitely feel a mark of humanity within him. He had been changed, just like Kilisha had. What that meant, Kilisha could only guess. Whatever it meant, though, Kilisha didn't see any way it could be a good sign.

She backed away and stood up.

Well... I just hope they weren't acting against their will, she mused.

Seryntas nodded, then set to his gruesome work. To the schizophrenic's credit, he never once appeared to enjoy doing it - killing in battle was okay with Seryntas, but he always felt like a murderer killing an unconscious man. Still, though, these were demons. His morality told him it was different.

And yet still the voices in his head screamed and howled in pleasure as he did it. But he had listened to them in the fourteen years he could hear them, and he didn't intend to start then.

Xiao Long was appalled by the idea of killing the incubi, but after some careful consideration, she decided taht it was the only thing they could've done. Still, while Seryntas set about his "dirty" work, Xiao Long roamed the opposite side of the mountain-top. She sat down and started playing tic-tac-toe in the dirt.

Kilisha certainly didn't have any taste for the act either. As soon as Seryntas began, she cringed and turned away. She did once glance at Jeshua, and saw that he was watching with an apparent total lack of emotion. The mage seemed to be watching only to see that the act was completed, not receiving any pleasure from it, but also not seeming very discomforted either. Kilisha found that she couldn't look at that either, so she quickly looked away again, this time with a shudder.

Seryntas finished the task, and stood up, wiping the blood off his sword with a rag. His voice was uncharacteristically soft as he said, possibly more to Kilisha than Jeshua, "Do you want me to dig them graves?"

Kilisha turned around to look at Seryntas after he had spoken.

"Yes... please," she whispered, unable to make herself speak any louder at the moment. She then nodded her head in case her voice hadn't been loud enough to hear.

"If you're going to, we'll have to carry them down from here," Jeshua said.

That was obvious, since the "soil" on the mountain consisted of no more than a thin layer of dust anywhere.

On that note, Xiao Long was having trouble playing Tic-Tac-Toe. There weren't very many patches of dirt deep enough to set the game up in, and the wind seemed to have a habit of destroying the board every few seconds.

Without another word, Seryntas sheathed his sword and took it off his back. He laid it on the ground, and then laid alongside it his helmet, breastplate, and gauntlets, and lifted one of the bodies onto his shoulder, the blood from the execution mixing with the sweat already drenching his thin, cotton shirt. Once he found his balance, he turned to Xiao Long. "Kid, watch my stuff," he said. Then, to Jeshua and Kilisha: "I'll carry the bodies down one by one - they're too heavy to do it any other way."

After failing to be able to play Tic-Tac-Toe, Xiao Long was glad to be able to do something with her time. She made a deliberate attempt, though, to walk around to the opposite side of the mountain so that her back was facing the dead incubi.

After watching Seryntas begin to walk down the mountain, Xiao Long got bored again, her child-like ADD symptoms kicking in again. She decided that Seryntas was too far away to be able to do anything to her, and began rummaging through his things. She made sure to keep her ear trained on any signs of Seryntas returning for the next body.

In Seryntas' small pack and in the little pouches attached to the sheath of the sword, Xiao Long found some clothing, food, water, a stoppered flask of a strong-smelling alcohol, a spring-loaded switchblade knife, some armor and sword polish, a hundred and twenty Doman gil, a crude wood figurine of a lion, and, buried at the bottom of the bag, a small, thin, dark red leatherbound case (like some watches come in). The case was locked, and apparently required a very small key to open.

"Eh, Da Jia Huo doesn't have anything interesting in here," she said, carefully putting everything back where it was when she started rummaging. Then, her ADD set in once again, and she began humming an eerie tune (Think B-minor, for those with any musical knowledge.).

Seryntas returned from the bottom of the mountain, and stooped again to pick up another body, a grim expression on his face.

Kilisha looked at Seryntas as he returned. She didn't feel good about making him do as mournful of a job as this one by himself. She had enough strength to help, so she decided to offer.

"I can... carry one of these bodies down... if you want me to," she said. "It would probably be better... since we don't... know how much time we have... before the... monster down there... gets its strength back."

Seryntas stopped a moment in his work and looked at Kilisha, then at the body in his arms. "It's shit work," he said, "And you've had a rough enough time being thrown around by tentacled things. Besides, these bodies are almost as big as I am. Do you think you can handle it?"

"I think I..." Kilisha began, then stopped to think.

Her onrush of desire to be of help had caused her to forget, but she now realized that she was still awfully sore and worn out from her ordeal. Furthermore, those bodies were pretty big on their own, and their armor would make them even heavier. Thinking reasonably, she realized that she might be able to drag one a little ways, but she would never be able to carry one all the way to the bottom of the mountain.

"... No," she admitted. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have... bothered you..."

As Xiao Long saw Seryntas walk down the side of the mountain again, her interest began to peek again. She looked at the red watch case.

"Wonder what's in there," she said to no one in particular. She then pulled a bobby pin out of her hair and began fiddling with the lock, hoping to pick it open.
