"So, chief..." began the gunman. "I'm guessin' that you want the bombs set up ahead of time so that we can just explode 'em on the way out. But once we're inside, what's the plan? Just have a bunch o' us louder types distract 'em while the sneakier types run in and grab the prisoners?"

Ree nodded. "Yeah, Ratch, that might be the best way to come at it now. I think you, Brandon, and Larak will do that while Saen, Calhoun and I try and grab the prisoners. Hopefully, we'll be able to get out and crush 'em without to much trouble."

Brandon's face, which had previously bordered on a brooding expression, brightened at the prospect of straight-forward and simple combat.

Not that he wasn't capable of anything else, of course. He could sneak about or be thoughtful if he wanted to...but it was so much more fulfilling to be in the thick of battle, using his strength and skill to the benefit of the group.

"Sounds like a plan to me," he said simply, leaning against the side of the cave entrance and waiting for the others to agree or decide on the plan of action.

Larak tried to manage a grin, but his heart just wasn't in it. The best he could hope for was that they'd be able to do this quickly and be out of the cave as soon as possible.

"Larak, you think you can handle both noisemaking and demolition rigging at the same time?" Ree asked. He didn't want them to escape from the drow only to find that their finishing trick wasn't ready yet.

"Four sticks, lass. Shouldn't need more'n two at worst." If he could set things up just right, a single stick of dynamite might actually suffice.

Ree nodded. "Good. Here's what we'll do. We go in, and when we get near the drow, the three noisemakers will hold off for one minute to give the rest of us time to get away from the ensuing mess. After that time, they start making as much chaos as possible, and if we get caught up in it, it's our own damn fault. While they're busy," he indicated Ratch, Brandon, and Larak, "the rest of us will try to get through camp unnoticed. If we ARE noticed, Calhoun, you're a prisoner, I'm the guard, and Saen..." he thought for a moment and then finished with a shrug, "you're some sort of summon I had to bring in to help with him." Here Ree indicated Calhoun.

This time he didn't wait for questions, because he got the feeling there'd be some from Saen and Calhoun, and he didn't want to take the time to try and answer them. Instead, he started into the cave, saying, "Clear? Good, let's go."

SUMMON!?

Saen definitely gave him a blank look at first, even while he was walking away...

But very soon after her expression changed.

You know I bet it wouldn't be that bad being a summon, only have to do work whenyou're called upon, wonder what they would do with all that free time.... hehe I know what I'd be doing ^___^

Saen made sure that her rope was the first thing she could grab for if she went into her bag.

It's been a long time since I'v gotten to play "prisoner" with someone... well I can hope that I get to.

The party began their advance into the cave, a plan set out before them. Ree and Larak had a far easier time navigating than the others, who found the lack of any form of low light vision quite a hassle, Brandon finding himself stumbling over the uneven ground every now and then, causing a little unwanted noise. Still, they proceeded without encountering any trouble...

Until they rounded a corner spotted the end of the "tunnel," which seemed to widen out into a large cavern beyond. A closer look wasn't possible, due to a lone drow guard standing watch at the entrance. Larak, who found himself at the head of the party, signaled the others to stop before they all rounded the corner. It didn't seem that they had been seen yet, but the drow guard didn't look like he'd be dropping off to sleep any time soon. From beyond, Ree could hear a heated debate going on, although he had no idea what it was about.

Ree looked at Calhoun, pointed at the guard, and tried to make clear through hand signals that he wanted to know if the mage could take out the drow quietly.

While lopping off the drow's head with his axe would take care of him nicely, it wasn't the sort of thing you could do without being noticed. Reluctantly, Larak decided it was better to leave the problem to one of his sneakier companions.

In the meantime, he kept an eye on the drow.

Given the present circumstances, there was very little that Ratch could do. He wasn't good with killing things quietly, and try as he may, he couldn't think of any suggestions to noiselessly take out the guard. For a moment, he considered that Saen may have had a quieter way to go about it, but he remained still, prefering to let Ree do the thinking.

Brandon twitched minutely, the expression on his face making it obvious that he was having a hard time keeping still and being quiet. Make noise? He could do that. Chop things in half? No problem. Sneak around like a little thief? Not his strong suit.

He hoped things would get interesting soon.

Saen smiled a silent smile, if no response came from the mage... she would try. She hadn't tried out her spell in a while, but she'd see what she could do... mhh the drow seemed resistant to magic anyway...

The guard stretched his fingers in front of him lazily, closing and opening both pairs of fists repeatedly, yawning as he did so. He leaned against the right wall of the passage, and quickly changed to the left when he found it uncomfortable. He didn't move away from his post, however, which was more than the party could have asked for.

Ratch looked to Calhoun, waiting for a response. He seemed slow to answer, and they were losing time...time which should be used for rescuing those prisoners, so that they could return and get their sizable sum of money.

Ree also noted Calhoun's lack of response. The Red mage was spazzing out on them, and he didn't like it. Still, it was to late to count him out now. The drow turned and poked at Saen, then nodded to the guard with his finger on his lips, and chopped his other hand across his throat. Finally, he quirked and eyebrow. Clearly, the question was, 'Can you get him, but quietly?'

Saen sighed, "Oh if you can't do anything just say so... I might be able to shujt him up.." She murmured quietly to the others, "But if it doesn't work... someone should be creeping up to try to take him out? Even if it does work.. it'll jsut shut him up, not take him out..."

The guard looked down the passage for a moment, his ears twitching. After a moment his eyes drifted away from the party, the six of them probably having gone unseen.

Once again, using hand signals (and making Saen aware that he didn't like her talking via a frown) he inquired as to whether Brandon or Larak thought they could manage to get up next to the drow quietly.

Calhouen, after a long, long "silent" period of thought, suddenly exploded into a long, convoluted series of hand gestures and signs, the red mage obviously trying to convey some masterfully crafted plan. Unfortunately, nobody had the faintest idea what he was trying to convey. Clearly, the others would have to come up with a plan.

Taking the general lack of movement as a sign that it was time for the last resort, Larak set about sneaking to within striking distance of the drow.

He tried, he really did. Whether his efforts would have any success was another matter entirely.

You're bloody lucky for someone in chainmail.

Postby Jak Snide » Wed Nov 19, 2003 9:45 am

The drow remained at his post, propped up against the wall of the tunnel, and started to whistle a simple tune as Larak closed in on him, the guard totally unaware of the sneaky dwarf.

Until, when he was a mere step away from the him, the watchman looked casually to his side. Then down, his expression no longer conveying bordedom, but shock, and perhaps fear, that there was someone right next to him with a sharp, painful looking axe.

(Larak's got one attack. It's combat between the two, for all intents and purposes, with Larak starting off with a sneak attack.)

Seeing that the game was up, Larak raised his axe and chopped viciously at the guard's chest, aiming to take him out of commission before he had any chance to react.

Quickly, the gunman's weapons were readied. He refrained from joining the battle, though, as doing so would most certainly alert everyone in the cave of the mercenaries' presence.

But he'll be seen unless he's standing still!

The guard was thrown back against the wall due to the force of the blow, an axe wedged firmly in his chest. His eyes were still wide open, even in death, and lay fixed on Larak.

(75 exp to Larak for doing something and taking the guard out.)

Boreas reached out and tapped Ratch on the shoulder, leaning in next to him and hissing under his breath, "We'll get moving now. Give us a sixty count, then start raising hell."

He then grabbed Calhoun's arm, Saen's shoulder, and jerked his head towards the cave. It was time to implement the next part of the plan.

Calhoun nodded, looking just a little hurt that his masterpiece of a plan had never been realised, then looked to Saen, waiting for the third member of the infiltration trio to show she was ready.

Larak, meanwhile, retrieved his axe, prising it out of the drow's chest. Drow never could take a hit. Then again, even a dwarf wouldn't have been looking too happy after a blow like that. Guard effectively dealt with, Larak waited for the infiltration party to get underway. Soon enough, the time for his own part in the plan would come...

Ratch nodded to Boreas and made his way over by Larak, guns at ready. Hopefully they would be able to find a nice bottleneck to squeeze the drow through once they got in, as there would most certainly be far more drow than there were mercenaries.

"Might wanna go set up yer explosives..." the gunman whispered to Larak. "We got a minute now, and no tellin' how hard it'll be to set 'em up with tons o' drow on our arses."

Roughly shoving Calhoun in front of him, Boreas proceeded to trot past Larak and the guard, carefully holding Calhoun's arms behind his back, to make it look like he was tied up. With Saen at his side, he walked with false boldness right into the belly of the beast.

As soon as the encampment was in sight, he looked it over, attempting to analyze where the prisoners might be, part of his brain thinking in the background, 'Wish someone else were here...'

The encampment was a long, long way from looking even remotely fancy, not a single structure in sight. Either the drow couldn't be bothered to set up a proper camp, or didn't feel the need to. Then again, the place had a fairly good structure for a base already. There was the main cavern itself, in which Larak and Ree could make out the figures of several dark elves scattered here and there, some fast sound asleep in their bedrolls, others quietly talking around a small camp fire, which illuminated the room enough for Saen to see what was going on.

Besides the central area, there appeared to be 3 tunnels leading off into smaller rooms at the back end of the cave. While none of them could see what was inside, Ree did note an odd shimmer about the archway. He also figured that, while he may not arouse too much suspicion at a glance, anyone who came close enough to see his face wouldn't be fooled for long.

Going with instict, Ree headed for the part of the cave that was shimmering. It seemed likely that the Drow had set up some sort of magical restraint to keep their prisoners in one place, so that would be the place to go. It seemed a good idea to try and skirt the encampment, but speed would also be good in this situation. The drow decided to aim for a happy medium, hoping to stay unobserved.

"Aye," Larak murmured quietly, extracting a stick of dynamite from a pouch. Selecting a nice fissure in the rock, he planted it and paid out a length of fuse. Light that on their way out and they soon wouldn't have to worry about pursuers.

That done, he began a mental sixty-count.

Aodhfin did his part, looking appropriately prisoner like as Ree led him over to the, eyes down cast, and hands behind his back. As the trio neared the shimmering portal, they could see that there was definitely some sort of magical field in place. It's exact nature, however, was yet to be determined.

The group's attention was quickly turned away from the portal as a voice rang out behind them, the language presumably being drow. Any who cared to look would note that the dark elf approaching them had an inquisitive look about him, his eyes resting on Calhoun, looking the red mage over quickly, before turning to address Ree again, another line of non-common leaving his lips as he got closer. In the background, Saen noted a few heads turning to regard the unusual trio.

Back with Larak, the count hit zero.
