The room seemed to only have one logical exit... a door to the right side.

Meanwhile, Damon responded, "If one of them simply crashes into a pillar, though..."

"Some creatures are created for simple excecution of a command, like "Defend this place." Others can be more complex when required, like that apparition." Elijah decided to probe the area, seeing if there was anything more to this place.

Despite the looks of the place, Elijah couldn't notice anything really weird. Until he got close to the door, at least....

There, one of the pillars seemed to have a greenish piece of stone in it. It was hard to tell the stone's function just by looking at it.

"Hey guys, I don't exactly have the best senses when dealing with magic, do any of you... well "sense" anything from this green stone over here?" Elijah gestured and eyed the stone cautiously

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:navy;">"Ooh. Cool stone." Layne walked up to it. "Wonder what it does..."

Layne gave it a cautionary tap.</span>

When Layne tapped the stone, nothing seemed to happen. Both he and Elijah, however, noticed that the door was across from the pillar they were examining.

The shape of the stone seemed to match that of a small indentation in the door. Damon came over to check what Elijah and Layne found.

"Yeah, no hard feelings. I can't think what's gotten into me lately." Jeff still had to rein in his temper, forcing himself to slow down and think about his actions.

The stone was a case in point. He could just ignore the thing and continue on his way. Instead, he examined the object with his astral sight.

Jeff, oddly enough, couldn't notice anything magical with the stone. It was completely nonmagical... and yet...

Jeff, Layne, and Elijah suddenly and simultaneously came to a conclusion. The stone had to be important to the door, perhaps some sort of key.

"Key, by the looks," Jeff said, removing the stone. "One way to test it." So saying, he made for the door, intent upon fitting it into the corresponding slot.

When Jeff inserted the stone into its proper slot on the door, nothing seemed to happen immediately.

About a second and a half later, however, the door creaked open, revealing a sort of stairway made out of stone.

"Upward," Damon instructed. "I'm fairly certain the main resident here lives at the top."

Elijah tried to once again prop open the door using a hunk of rock from the broken pillar before continuing on with the others.

"Upwards it is then," Jeff said, starting up the stairs. When he found whoever was in charge here, he was going to - think slowly and carefully before I do anything, he thought, throttling back the bloodthirsty thoughts which had arisen.

((OOC: Last post until wednesday, unfortunately, so Jeff goes back to NPC status. I'll have to sort out the levelling when I get back.))

As Elijah propped open the door, and Jeff went upward, Damon went inside as well. As he stepped upward a bit, he then turned.

He was waiting on the others... but then suddenly, a loud scream came from the floor above. Any of them could have heard the scream itself, but Elijah and Jeff noticed that the screaming had a few curses in some language other than Common mixed in.

"I do believe we have angered a person who did not wish that Hydra to be destroyed. He is cursing in several languages, so this foe might prove that there are enemies of intelligence here." Elijah continued onward, ever so cautiously.

As the group went up a few more steps, the screaming came again. This time, it was a more panicked scream... to Elijah, it now sounded like someone was in trouble.

MAJOR trouble.

The group further made its way up the stairs... and after a short time, they came across another door... a wooden one this time, completely sealed.

It was clear that the screaming was emanating from the room behind it. And, even more importantly, the screaming was more coherent, actually sounding like words.

"....GET ME OUT OF HERE!!!!"

"... alright, everyone, ready? I'm going to try to break it down..." Elijah first tried to break it down with a slash of his tail.

Elijah immediately realized that the door was still rather sturdy, as his tail's slash didn't seem to make too much of a dent in the door itself.

It would take a tougher blow to knock down this door.

"Hmmm..." Elijah then backed up a bit. "Okay get out of the way, I'm going to try charging into it, hope I don't crash into somethingo n the other side... if it breaks." Once everyone was out of the way he charged, read to smash into it with his shoulder.

(OOC: Walter's currently out of MP, Geoc. The spell you cast against the hydra gave a slight physical drain (loss of HP).)

Elijah rammed his shoulder into the door, and caused it to break open into multiple pieces, which scattered themselves on the ground.

Behind the door, there was a moderately-sized room, with dull stone walls and floor. What stuck out about the room, however, was the number of strange devices. There were several coffin-like structures, some closed, some open, revealing the spikes inside of them. In addition, many tables had been set up, with the vast majority having a lot of blood.

One of the tables near the far end of the room, however, had a creature chained to it. At first glance, it looked much like a red dragon. However, its face seemed more human-like, its wings were smaller, and its limbs suggested that it was bipedal.

"Hey GUYS!! COME HERE AND HELP ME!" the creature yelled. Damon slowly entered the room and made his way over to the creature.

"I apologize if this sounds cold, but why should we help you? Do we have any reason to trust you?" Elijah walked towards the creature, getting pretty close. Elijah examined the chains to see if they could simply be opened, have to be broken, or needed a key.

The draconic creature looked angrily at Elijah.

"Listen. The resident of this tower captured me and put me here. He thinks I know something about a man he's been looking for."

Elijah saw that the end link on each of the chains was attached to an iron spike under the table. It would be very hard to reach there, but the chains could probably be just removed with a little care.

Damon looked back at Layne.

"I'm kind of suspicious myself, but logically, if we can get help from this guy, we should. Besides, I'm sure we're going to be facing a lot worse stuff going up from here."

Elijah decided to look at another one of the tables for a second, just to see if the set up was about the same, especially dealing with the spike.

"Someone get under there and remove on of the spikes.. I'll hold onto the spike itself... just in case."

<span style="font-family:comic sans ms; color:navy;">"I'll get it," Layne said as he got down on his hands and knees to go under the table.

"Ew, dirty," he said with disdain as he reached for the stake and gave it a good pull...</span>

Layne almost immediately realized he wouldn't be able to get the stake out himself. In fact, it would seem no one else could do it either.

Yet he also realized the chain could be pried off with a little care....

Meanwhile, Elijah noticed that the other tables had very similar arrangements regarding the spikes.

Upon entering the room, Jeff's attention had been immediately drawn to the room's draconic occupant. After that, however, he had taken in the room's paraphenalia.

It didn't take much imagination to work out the function of this stuff, and Jeff's imagination was overactive if anything. He was presently trying very hard not to be sick.

How can people do this to each other? I'd like to get the guy in charge in here for a bit, see how he likes it - No I wouldn't. Damnation, what is wrong with me?

Damon, diverting his attention from the draconian on the table, looked at Jeff for a moment.

He spoke quietly, though still audibly, "I wonder what this guy's trying to do... has he been acting normally??"

Walter looked around the room. Hanabel Lector was more humane.

"I think the building should be destroyed when we're done with who ever owns it."

The draconic creature on the table turned his attention to Walter the best he could.

"Destroyed, you say? This building's been nothing but torture as long as I've been in it - the lich at the top has forced the death of those I saw him capture.

"I was worried I'd be next if you guys didn't come. I have plans on how to bring the tower down, but I can't execute them chained and starved, can I?"

This is when it became apparent to Walter that the draconic creature hadn't eaten in about a week.

Walter walked over and started to fix the first problem, the chains. He took his time looking over the chains and finsing the proper way of getting them off of the spikes.

The draconic creature glanced at Elijah. The terror he had initially expressed seemed to have faded by now.

"The resident dracolich.... sent one of his minions to capture me... while I was sleeping. He knocked me cold... and when I woke up, I found myself chained here... and haven't seen anyone since. It's been four days now. I've had to conjure up water just to keep myself from dehydrating... and I don't know how much longer I'll be able to stay here."

Meanwhile, Damon simply stayed quiet.
