Shina awoke silently, looking around. She yawned, stretching out like a cat, then noticed RedFox lying next to her.

"Eek! What the...?"

It took some time before anyone had noticed Corantir. He had been up before any of them, and was already puffing on camomille, looking out across the vastness of the environs. Invigorated by the crisp air, he had settled on not wearing his shirt, and even began stretching and doing simple aerobix exercises to start his day, as he always did, briskly.

Miiam stood up. Come, come. He nuzzled D then Shada. You all are far too young to be so slow out of bed. It's worrisome to see the young linger.

"**** off."

D growled. How dare this bastard even think of ordering him when to wake up? They were doing what HE wanted, they're doing it D's way.

He rolled to the side and grumbled a bit then relaxed again.

RedFox woke up with a start. He looked around hurriedly, then spotted Shina. He gave her a half smile, a bit confused as to why she had shouted, and spoke, "something wrong, Shina?" His smile was gentle and friendly, almost calming, and his tail tapped against the grassy floor as he waited for her answer.

Lazy git.

Unread postby Jak Snide » Tue Jan 28, 2003 12:24 pm

Kilra couldn't sleep. The sun was up, and it bothered her greatly. It was impossible to relax with that giant ball of fire blazing in the skies.

An arm stretched out, snatching her two blades from beside her as she rose, quickly preparing herself for travel.

Kilra walked over to Corantir, watching him as he exercised.

"What're you doing?" she asked inquisitively, not being familiar with such forms of exercise. Back home, she'd been too busy with training to learn about non-combative forms of physical exertion.

Shada woke slowly, inhaling deep, streeatching her arms out... and touching something soft and furry? She rolled over to find she had a hand-full of Red's tail, and quickly let go.

"Whoops..."

She scooted away and started to put her armour back on, as if nothing had happened.

D stretched and sat up, seeing that he could not go back to sleep, and looked at the others. Seeing that he was the last one to wake up, he remained like that, looking at the others do their stuff, still tired as hell.

Miiiam shook himself. I am not sure why my powers did not reach you and that you are still weary...Why don't you wait here for a bit and we'll continue on ahead. I promise to take care of Kilra.

Miiam turned his head and and addressed the drow. Kilra are ready to head along? If you'd like you can ride by back. Every hero should have a steed.

Kilra raised her palm and shook her head at Miiam.

"I'm fine with walking. Thanks though."

She then turned her attention back to the exercising man, waiting for a reply.

RedFox chuckled and scratched the back of his head. "Well, it's only better to stick together out here, no? I didn't mean anything by it, really. I apologize if i startled yo-" He stopped short and turned to Shada, who had just let go of his tail. He stared a little, but shrugged it off. "at least it gave her some comfort." He spoke to Shina, "don't worry about it, really. I hope it served you well, though." He chuckled and grabbed his clothes, quickly slipping them on again.

"Don't forget us, hey!" He walked over to Miiam and Kilra. "I surely will be coming with you."

When she had finished putting on her various things, she stood and walked to Miiam and the other's, aparently oblivious someone had just been staring at her. She wasn't invading minds this early in the morning.

after one last streatch, she looked about, from person to person, and then to Miiam.

"Ready when you all are."

His foot was behind his head by the time he realized he was being spoken to. "Eh!?" He turned, nearly falling, but catching himself quickly.

A huff through his nostrils later, he put a relaxed smile on his face and replied "I'm merely preparing my body for whatever the day may bring. You see human joints and tendons aren't always ready for intense motion. Sleep, especially, relaxes them below levels of athletic use. I don't know how yours work, but I do know a little work and exercise can increase physical capabilities." He was half tempted to suggest that someone as comfortable on the eyes as her was in no need of body sculpting, but the existance of D prevented this.

"A bit of magic release is good too. Gets the spirit flowing." With that, he cupped his hands, closed his eyes, and shot a small Purity Beam into the air.

Chit chat.

Unread postby Jak Snide » Thu Jan 30, 2003 12:52 pm

Kilra's eyes rolled upwards as she tracked the beam's ascent.

"Never knew that." she half muttered, looking back at Corantir. She liked this male, even if he had doubted her abilities earlier. He had the right attitude about him, and a confidence when it came to adventure, from what she'd heard him say so far.

Maybe he might be better than D

She chuckled softly, brushing aside the thought. She was more than happy with D, despite their differences, and she wasn't about to indulge in the partner swapping that her Lolthite sisters were known for.

"A warrior who can cast magic?" she asked, even though she knew the answer, as she turned to walk back towards the others.

D looked at the other, and it was only natural that his sight would go to the one near Kilra...

"Hey, you. Are you a fist fighter too?" he said, interested. He wasn't one who was trained in any style in particular, but he was still interested to see how others worked. He blamed that on the shrine.

"Heh." He looked between them, still showing his calm smile. "I might be able to punch and kick a bit, but I am no fist fighter. I am becoming proficient with a pole arm." With that, he retrieved his trident and twirled it around in his hands. He seemed experienced and slightly seasoned, but in no way a master. He then set it upright upon its pole end.

"This is my weapon until I condition myself to handle a halberd. That's really my dream. To be able to cast any sort of arcane magic and still be able to hold my own in melee." He took a strong puff from his pipe, then knocked burning the camomille ball onto a rock and stamped it out with his trident.

"Most warriors specialize in magicks, or fighting, or even their own latent supernatural powers. I like to think of myself as a representative that a human's versatility is his latent power. I shall become a warlock tried and true. I don't need wings or a long life to make something of myself..." Seeing that the others were becoming bored with him, he concluded. "Unfortunately, I don't have direction in life. And that's why I'm here...I figure a bit of adventure will help me grow and make something real of myself." He nodded and awaited support or criticism or indifference.

Dun dun dun....CD!

Unread postby Jak Snide » Thu Jan 30, 2003 4:40 pm

Kilraianjja couldn't help but feel a deep respect for this man, who desired to master all forms of combat, both physical and magical. She suddenly felt guilty for avoiding her magic lessons back home, something which resulted in multiple punishments. Then again, said shirking had forced her mother to enroll her into the warriors guild to get some use out of her, and the young drow enjoyed the life of the warrior more than that of a mage.

But this man made her stop and think. Should she really have shunned the magical arts? She had some magic capabilities, but the spells that she currently possessed came almost naturally to her race. For the first time in her life, she considered that the two swords by her side, Dusk and Silence while powerful tools in their own right, limited her capabilities by being her only weapons.

All the same, now was not the time for such thoughts, as a journey lay ahead.

"An interesting dream." she said, nodding to the warlock. "I can see the sense in your words. But, really, shouldn't we be going? We can talk as we walk, after all."

He nodded in consent and set about fully dressing himself. He slipped on his shirt, his small boots, and then his leather armor. Finally, came his mantle which he whirled around him as if he were dancing. That done, he looked around and waited for the others to be ready.

Miiam nodded and lead them out of the encampment. The sun was already burning bright in the sky. The dew from ground evaporated as they walked and the light breeze was fresh and cool.

As they approached Odin's Trail, the plains slowly turned to forests. In the distance they could hear the roar and rush of the mighty river. When it came into view it was wide and vast.

We have two options: find a boat and cross that way or take the underground passage. The underground passage may have a few ill-tempered beasts but as long as someone is a bit proficient in boating, I see no reason why we can't cross above water.

Water, oh no!

Kilra crossed her arms and eyes the river warily. While she knew how to swim, she wasn't sure about the others, and she didn't want to loose anyone to the waters.

"Don't know a thing about boating myself." she muttered, her voice quiet as her thoughts were elsewhere.

"Neither do I. We're taking the tunnels, aren't we?" D said and sighed, taking out the pistol. He wasn't going to bother with anyone blocking his way. That was the WILLING people's jo- ... Damn it! Kilra... ... ... and Red. A little. ... He sighed, again, but did not put back the pistol.

With a shrug, he readjusted his grip on his trident. "Either way. A challenge of the mind or the body. I intend to shine either way. I hope I won't be responsible for the rest of you either." He spoke in not so much arrogance, but confidence...which he intended to incite in the others as well.

"I'm all for the peaceable route over the river. I believe a living being who abandons wisdom for war is an enemy to life and is not worthy of it." And he shrugged again.

Shada looked at Corantir breifly, the first thought coming to mind being 'drama queen'. She sighed and said,

"Well, I don't know how, and though he didn't actually say so, I'll bet Corantir doesn't know how to use a boat any better than the rest of us. I suppose it's over plains and through the cave to death's house we go."

She ignored strange looks she got at her twist on an old rhyme she'd heard as a child. It helped lighten HER mood atleast. She waited for them to begin moving again.

Choices....choices

Unread postby Nekogami » Sat Feb 01, 2003 5:55 pm

Miiam nodded his head, understanding the careful consideration that the humans were undertaking. Indeed, he felt, Ruinnoc had chosen the best.

Underneath the soil, the creatures that dwell in the caverns created by thousands of years of persistent waters are not so sinister as you might think. Gully goblins, weak, stupid and blind are the strongest you might face, but they are poisonous and they're numbers alone may cause the most problems. Other than that, cavern bats, rock tarantulas, and and stone worms are the only other opponents that you will face. Nothing else should live down there unless a cave troll has taken residence but they hardly travel so far from the mountains.

He turned to consider the river and address Kilra's concerns. This wonderous river, Odin's Trail, is as fierce as it's namesake. The waterfalls to the east give this river its strength. The hidden rocks are probably they greatest danger; greater than the current....We could search down river for a clearing, perhaps some busy beavers have made a calm place to cross but as you can see right now we are perched a bit precariously on this cliff, so it may add a day or two to our journey in order to find a safe way down and a safe way to cross. Personal opinion is to find a safer way above ground but of course, being a horse....I'm a bit disturbed by tight squeezes... He looked at Shada and winked. He too had a sense of humor.

Kilra frowned. She didn't want to lead the group into a tough battle before they'd even reached their destination, no matter how much fun it may prove.

"Let's vote on this." she began, deciding that she'd follow the majorities' path. "All in favour of looking for a crossing, say aye."

She ignored D's remark, as she had expected criticism when she made her own. As for the vote, though...

"Aye. Provided we don't have some sort of time limit..." She looked breifly at Miiam here, "it wouldn't hurt at all to look for an alternate path."
