Well, there's always the bust in whrough the front door approach, but... No. Sighing, Kelne fell in beside Pervy. "I wouldn't worry about torch-wielding mobs. This lot are far too cowed for it. No, I'd worry about whoever put the fear of the gods into them in the first place."

Kelne's statement made Alash's mind wander. He frowned darkly at what his mind came up with.. "Oh, there's my happy thought for today. The gods having something to do with this. That'd just make me feel all special inside."

Nagan hurried to catch up.
"Damnit, you bloody bastards. Now, I figure if we follow whatever road looks best maintained, we'll get somewhere. And I was also thinking that we need to have a way to make ourselves look more important. I mean, I have the Neo Vanic thing, but we need a way to make ourselves look pompous and important if we meet anyone who isn't scared spitless of mages. And, of course, because I know one of you buggers will suggest it, we'll come up with a way of making ourselves inconspicuous." He shuddered at the very word. Inconspicuous. It was just so..soo....so NON NEO VANIC.

Nagan sighed. "Did you notice that these people are wearing RAGS? I don't see much problems in the way of large powerful militia. Even if they were, they'll damn near bow down to us if any of us does so much as call up a small gust of wind or, in Pervy's case, clear up a scratch. Damnit, why couldn't Diran be here and not me? He's at least good at this whole subterfuge thing.."

"Put it this way - they lean towards flamboyancy." Kelne turned towards Nagan, "Do try to keep a low profile, wouldn't you - Which one are you, anyway? I seem to have lost track."

Unfortunately, looking at the group, 'inconspicuous' was probably a lost cause. Still, without knowing a lot more about the authorities, Kelne was not in the least inclined towards impersonating them.

"Aye, tis best we not be tellin' folks we use magic at first, methinks," Pervy says. "Squeeze some learnin's out of 'em afore we scare th' piss outta them. Sides, methinks most o' 'em wouldn't know a mage if one came up and hit 'em in the head."

The grins and adds, "If they ask, I'll pass meself off as a priest. And if we need to, I'm surre Nagan an' I can put th' fear o' Ishtar in 'em.

"Tis somethin' t' save fer later, though."

Zukath had hurried to catch up to the rest of them. It took him quite a bit of running, though - he wasn't exactly a sprinter.

They don't even care too much for introductions.... this can't be THAT dire....

He merely kept listening, not finding the right spot in conversation to really enter.

Nagan chuckled at Kelne. "Wind, my dear Dark Lord. Now, er...before we get there, while I know Pervy's got the excuses for who we AREN'T down, let's see how we can make ourselves look presentable to the ones we are, yes? Now, I hardly expect you all to have entrance protocol like I do, but I'm sure between me and the Captain, we can come up with enough of a title to make you seem like some of the most powerful people in existence. Course, our first thoughts should be to how exactly we're all going to eat tonight. This is going to be one of those expeditions. Oh, and can we avoid saving the world?"

The group heard a dull whistle over their heads as they continued walking. Turning to see what was up, the were met with a most spectacular sight...

A long metallic object was moving through the air. It was cylindrical, but it came to a point at the very tip, or at least what they THOUGHT was the tip. Out of the opposite end spewed a fire, as if someone had set it alight. It moved through the air quickly, and its tip turned downwards. It was going toward the village, which was a good distance away. When the tip touched the ground there, well, it was like nothing they had experienced. The ground rumbled, and an explosion enveloped the entire town, fire and brimstone flying through the air. The flames burned strong for a good while after the object had impacted, but it was obvious that nobody had survived. The shock on the ground knocked them over, though it left them similarly unhurt.

Whatever it was...it was horrible.

"Not exactly a warm welcome," Kelne said, picking himself up. "I'd say it's a good bet that someone's noticed our arrival. Tyranical these people may be, but no one destroys a village for no reason."

Under his usual facade of calm indifference to the suffering of others, Kelne was seething with suppressed rage. Whoever was responsible for this was going to pay. Dearly.

Zukath was completely alarmed by this. Never had he seen something so destructive... not even when his home had been destroyed.

Picking himself up off the ground, only one thought went through his mind. He turned to Kelne.

"Whatever that was, someone around here truly hates us."

"Th' hell?" Pervy said.

He didn't know what else to say. At all. Hell, he was fairly sure Jak Snide wouldn't know what to say.

But, he was fairly sure he knew the cause.

"You lot carry on..." Pervy says, after a minute. "I'll see what I can do 'ere." With that, he starts back toward what remained of the village.

Gotta help them folks. Five t' one says that happened because we were there...

Re: Irony

Zukath wanted to stop Pervy for a couple of reasons. One, he knew no one had survived. Two, he was worried that something else was going to happen.

But he kept quiet in that regard. Instead, he looked at Nagan, and said, "Since you seem to be the only other one taking charge here... lead the way."

His voice had a hint of anger to it, apparently not liking what just happened. In addition, his hands reflexively went for the claws at his waist. He wasn't taking any chances.

Nagan sighed.
"Oh, bloody hell, you're not going to...OH, YOU ARE. Look! There are potentially millions upon millions of Wind spells being passed around Doma City right now that I'm not learning! And if we go BACK, all we're doing is promoting the death of whomever is left! I say we go to the next town, steal ourselves a few horses, and a cart, enough to survive, and find somebody who can DEFEND themselves against these bastards! We're not going to get anywhere saving people!"

"You will do no such thing," Kelne said firmly, stepping forward and seizing Pervy by the arm, "Even assuming someone survived, which is a big assumption to make, your presence would not help them."

The next words were delivered in a tone of authority gained from experience, "Do you really think that will be the end of it? Whoever sent that will be wanting to make sure it accomplished its task. Remaining in the area is a very good way to get yourself killed. And anyone who might be 'aiding and abetting' you."

Not to mention that if one person was found alive, it would be assumed that others had survived. Kelne much preferred to be thought dead.

Pervy's reply was a fist to Kelne's jaw. It was not quit the same force that left Choark dazed some months back, but it was enough to get the purpose done.

"Ye expect me t' just turn me back on that?" Pervy asks, as he takes his arm back and carries on. "Every bloody thing I learned at Everbright twas fer disasters! And I told ye t' go on! I'll deal wit' this!"

He then returns to the path back toward the inferno.

The captain quickly reached the wreckage, to see just that. Wreckage. If there was a soul left alive, all it would need was comfort while they were carried off to the great beyond. The houses were ruined, except for a few at the outer edges. However, they were burnt quite nicely. A fire still burned near the impact site of the object, reminder of what had happened.

"Damn all moralistic do-gooders anyway," Kelne muttered, glaring after the captain. "Idiots insist on treating the symptons rather than the cause." Nevertheless, allies were hardly so thick on the ground that he was going to leave Pervy to whatever fate he brought down on himself.

Much as he might be tempted to at the moment.

"Hell..." Says the White Mage, "And they're afriad o' us?"

Still, he's come this far. And he'd be damned if he didn't try. So, he begins to search the outer edge for some kind of survivor that could benefit from from a regen spell. If nothing else, he could at least get the poor sod's last words.

If they did this cuz o' us... Pervy wonders, How th' hell they know we were here?

"You bastards are going to make me wait here for Pervy to find somebody alive, aren't you. And then he's going to decide that he needs to bring one along. And then we're going to have to continually save the survivor's life along the way, culminating in our eventual deaths. Can we go now?"

The captain wasn't the only one scraping through the rubble in a vien attempt to find someone. Nameless, who had at first been carefully following them, had instantly turned back to the village after he saw the destruction suddenly caused by that thing.

Though he had suffered in his eight years since his "birth", it had not been without some kindness and it was something that had stuck on him. He hated death and hatred in all its forms. He could not leave the village without knowing for certain everyone had been killed, not if there was even a slightest chance someone had survived.

The whole thing had been so sudden. The village had stood there, then it was destroyed. Who could have such power? Nameless would try to find out, after this search. He looked around, searching for a soul.

( OOC: Soul serching probably works much the same way as a magical aura does *shrugs* but ya the GM so... )

"Look on the bright side, Nagan. Pervy is extremely unlikely to find anyone. In the meantime, we should find some good cover and keep a lookout for company."

Kelne scanned the landscape. Some woods would be ideal for his purposes, although he'd settle for an abandoned building or a good wall at a pinch. Anything to block them from the view of any new arrivals.

Pervy and Nameless' searches were in vain. The houses that weren't completely destroyed were burnt badly, and there weren't any survivors. As for any dying, there were only bodies. Whatever that thing had been, it had enough power to finish the job quickly. Nameless couldn't sense any souls, except for Pervy's.

Kelne saw that the area was almost devoid of vegetation. There were a few scattered trees, but they were mostly on the plains, with nothing to hide behind.

Such a thing, to destroy all life with such suddeness. What had been the cause of this? Was it there actions or...

If he could yell in frustration Nameless would have done so, this had angered him to that point. A whole village destroyed, completely, all life, gone.

He stood, bowing his head and mourned for the lives lost for a moment, and also contemplated on his next course of action as he had litle chance of hiding the fact he was following the group.

"Kelne? You're the only sane one here, besides maybe, um, Zukath, I think it was. And that's _me_ saying that. Think on that one. Now, the question is, do we grab Pervy before we start scattering like ants under the magnifying glass?"

"Th' bloody hell..." Pervy says to himself, as he approaches Nameless, the only other soul about and moving.

"Oy, Matey," Pervy says, his voice abit heavy. "If there's any alive out 'ere, 'e's healthy 'nough t' hide from us. Let get th' hell outta here a'fore they send another one o' them things."

Nameless nodded his head at Pervy, exaggerating his movements so he could see the movement of his hood easier. Now he was seen there was little point to running right away as he needed to be near them all.

It was unforantant that it was this man though, just being close made Nameless's body feel sick and his claw twitched in wanting to strike at him. Control was something he worked on and it caused him little trouble, for now.

He then turned and headed back to the group.

This is going to be... intresting.

He had no where to run. They would either except him, or attempt to strike him down, if they bothered to ask questions.

Pervy follows, the look on his face quite clearly sending several messages. The most clear on being "Don't fuck with me right now".

Quite simply, this whole affair did not put him in the mood to be messed with at the moment.

Zukath was a bit alarmed. His name wasn't exactly common knowledge, so having Nagan know it was a surprise to him. Yet, he had met other well-known people before, such as Hakaril, so maybe his name was mentioned by them.

"Yeah, that was the name. And I say we'd better grab Pervy and... whoever the other guy was... and get moving."

Then a thought struck him. Since... whatever the object was... had been spewing fire, maybe it could have been some sort of magic, which had been feared in the town. That might have explained things.

Thus, Zukath took a look at the remains of the town, closing his eyes and trying to sense if there was any magic there. Specifically, he was looking for any sort of fire magic, the same type that the object seemed to have emitted.

(OOC: Basically just astral sight.)

Zukath could not notice any fire magic at all. Whatever that thing was, it was nonmagical. Completely.

It dawned on them that standing around wouldn't accomplish anything. If they stuck around...there still might be more of those things coming their way..

Zukath was absolutely flabbergasted. Since when did an explosion that big have nothing to do with fire magic?

Ending the use of astral sight, Zukath was about to go and catch up to Pervy. But first, he turned to Nagan and Kelne.

"Okay guys, tell me something. An explosion that big was caused by something nonmagical. What is there that's nonmagical and capable of causing something so catastrophic?"
