The Slow Trip Home (Ash's End in the War)

Unread postby Ash Fanrico » Wed Nov 05, 2003 2:03 am

Ash felt like crap.

As the two travellers, both man and lion, made their way back home, Ash couldn't help but feel like it was the biggest waste of time he had ever experienced.

Now... to add to that... he had just recieved news, from a villager in one of the aptly named "Patrol Route Villages", that while he was away... the entire war had been won. Doma was free again, and he...

He had not been there... at all.

So naturally... like all things... the little unwanted "vacation" came to an end. Ash had achieved nothing... but embarrasment, and general disgust at how he had wasted time running around the back roads of Doma, while his commrades-in-arms had fought a war without him.

Add to that the unsuccessful attempt to save the Queen from the clutches of Vaniyakna, and the embarrassment that followed soon after.

It has been a dark moment in the life of this warrior. Ash thanked the gods that might still be watching him that Sher'Khan couldn't talk... cause Ash was sure that the lion would have commented on all of this.

Ash knew he was going to be given a whole buncha shit by just about everyone when he got back. He couldn't blame em either. He was supposed to be there, beside them, protecting those he had sworn to defend.

Ash made a small prayer that Sorune wasn't around when he got back. For the fact that the warrior feared what he would do to the mage if he met him in the near future.

Besides the fact that he was sent on a basic wild goose chase, which landed him being pantsless, and the farthest away from just about any part of the Doman Resistance groups, not to mention the battles.

Nope... Ash was stuck out here... walking home in shame. At least his stupid pants had gotten dirty, torn up and all together worn in... so that nobody would be able to taunt him about the stupid clothing. Yes... he'd make sure that he put on a new pair of pants before meeting up with the others. Of course after burning this current pair of pants as well.

A low tired growl came from the lion. Ash looked over at him, "Just a couple a more miles... then we rest. Ok?" he asked as he personally was wanting to get out of this HELL as quickly as possible.

Sher'Khan gave an irritated growl in response and kept moving. Ash could tell this has been a "pleasant" experience for the large feline as well. At least... during all of this... the lion had stuck with him. A true companion.

Even when he, Ash, was at his most down... the lion stayed by his side. Had stuck it out through all of this just as much as Ash had. Ash had a good idea what to do for this lion when they got back. Buy him a nice big steak or something like that.

A few more steps and Ash stopped. "Ok big guy... let's rest for a moment." he said while leaning down to the ground. Sher'Khan was very glad to hear that as he was quickly on the ground before Ash even finished his sentence.

Ash chuckled as he sat there on the ground. Though this trip had been a total loss for him... he had made a great friend out of it. So, Ash guessed, the whole trip hadn't been too much of a waste after all.

--------
And so... Ash's "Quest" was over. But even Ash had uncertainties about the future... and what lie ahead for the kingdom of Doma.

Can't Be Great All The Time
