Freoburgh 13th - Fox Company "Gate Wardens" (40k)

Unread postby Christian » Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:13 pm

:D So I got some snazzy photos taken of my army in the making last weekend, and now I've got them uploaded (in 25% size), so I decided to share some photos of'em!

I think this shows what kind of camo I've had in mind for my guys. Every soldier's got camo-cloth on his clothing, but it doesn't show up well in the pictures. I'm proud to say that I've missed the tank a couple of times when I've looked on the table, but it works best in Cities of Death. I've tried to model the camo on the boards we usually play on. Up close the camo does look a bit spotty though. :(

Here're all the painted figures, sans 8 I finished today, posing in the environment they're meant to fight in. The army's named Gate Wardens as they are the defensive forces of Freoburgh, an ancient Forge World specializing in the development of the dreaded Executioner Leman Russ model (plasma-cannons galore). The Regiment has a long and bloody history, as both chaos scum and greenskin filth have tried to claim the foundries for their own.

Some veterans hiding out in a fortified cover. Some of the transfers are painfully obvious when looking at the larger picture. I hate and love the transfers, but I've yet to find a method that easily hides the plastic edges.

Some blurry, some less so, but showing off the camo of their pants and jacketsleeves. I've also gone for a mixed-race theme in my army, since mankind didn't just suddenly turn white once we left for space.

Colonel Fyrnmann, Commissar Abraham Salk, Vox-com Officer Mandrick and Medic Piotr keeping it real.

Overhead view. Here we get a look at Techpriest Enginseer Falskr, donning the traditional white robes of his office (the red cloak has yet to be implemented on Freoburgh)

Here we have the entire Company with first, second and third platoon, parts of the 22nds Mechanized as well as some Planetary Defense Force soldiers (old Guardsmen models I bought painted). First and second Platoon are infantry-based, Third is strictly Heavy Weapons oriented while the 22nd Mechanized is represented by the Sentinel and the three Leman Russes.

Command staff again with the inclusion of Commissar Matteus von Petroff. He likes to orate.

A closer look on the infantry.

Commander of the Company and Colonel to Boot, Fyrnmann is one tough SOB (he survived 2½ rounds of firing from about 6-700 points of orks by himself before succumbing to the ork bikers who drove up into the ruins to catch him), and his white gloves represent just how serious he takes his position. Favored tactics is hiding out between the normal troopers with four plasma-guns ready to render whatever foolish elite units approaching into molten piles of slag. Other favored tactics are sniping with a lascannon from ruins donning camo-cloaks, or even watching from a distance, wishing the boys good luck while heading for cover.

Anyway, I'll try to keep up the photo-taking as my army progresses. :) Any thoughts, comments or criticism is very welcome.

This is some seriously cool shit. I would be tempted to steal that tank if I came anywhere near it.
Anime is kind of like fish in that it is better the less "fishy" it is.

*laughs* It's a friends camera, and most of the pictures I took came out blurry and shitty. :P I took about 40, and this were the least horrible.

And thanks BW :D I'm glad you want to steal it!

Isn't that always the way?

Anyway, cool stuff! Are the map props yours, or do they belong to your local store?

Thanks Dia. And yeah, the terrain's from the local gaming club I frequent... or rather, the largest and best Swedish Warhammer club "Rogue Traders" who've been active for nearly 20 years. These are some of the less impressive stuff, they've got over 50 2x4's with all kinds of terrains and a veritable hoard of terrain pieces to set out. Including a piece of cut in stuff stretching over three of the 2x4's that can be fitted with a river, a dug-in and a fortified dug-in.

I, although being a member of this prestigious club, have not yet done any terrain work. :[

Editted for fixing

Characters reading aloud during battle always make for the best miniatures. And, due to some trick of the light in the last picture, it looks to me like your commander has spectacles. You need to realise this feature. Good stuff, man!
