Comment away!

Also, Animations:

Walk:Image

Attack:Image

Edit: Oh yeah, an AWESOME Image hosting site: www.gazler.com. Free, Unlimited space.
Edit2: Removed Sheild after what DM said, and made a new Animation which is at the bottom of the thread.

I also steal sprites and don't appologize at all when caught red handed! :D

(EDIT 3: HEY! I APOLOGISED! Lex, I think that's a bit harsh. Anyways for those who saw the old version of thses (Gradiant hair...) The hair is certainly better, much better than the gradiant, at least)
Edit again: Uploaded reshaded walk cycle animation, uploaded latest sheet. <p>

Edit: I honestly have NO IDEA how to make GOOD looking shields. DM, I apologise. I suppose more practice is in order... <p>

Yeah, I know. Anyways, Made a new sheilds, added it, and re uploaded. I particularly would like comments on the shield, I'm a bit iffy on how it looks.

Edit: Oh yeah, Regarding Gasler, my image Host, the Rules for it: Pngs, Gif or JPGs ONLY, No uploading images larger than 2 mb. <p>

...5/10.

1. Armor shouldn't be a steady gradient. It looks far too unnatural.

2. It's freaking huge. Why does it reach up to his cheeks?

3. why is the shield held backwards?

4. When he's moving up, his armor is so off it isn't funny.

5. It's an obvious ff6 edit.

There you go sir

Dude, jooie. Point #5? You're the man. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Priam: The difference between him and me is that I made my RPGWW sprite for the purposes of animation, whereas my usual work is of ever so slightly higher quality.

Also, Lothar: What the fuck do you need that many sword frames for? Simply put, if he's swinging faster than a sloth on sedatives, you only need two. One for the top, two for the bottom. Perhaps some pixels for the swing. Look at FF6 closer, my friend.

Furthermore: If you're going to use sprites, make all your pixels the same size. This means: Don't do that weird crap where you use your rotate function and leave it at that: Your line thickness varies when you do that, and that makes your sprites look -dumb-.

More highlights.

Sword is too detailed in comparison to the rest of the sprite; You don't want your characters to be overshadowed by their weaponry.

More criticisms as I come up with them <_<

I kinda like the sword swing myself, it has a little personality in it with the bobbing of the head and all. Adds real weight to what my guess must be an overly large sword. <p><div style="text-align:center">Image </div>

In regards to Banjooie's Point Number 5, I ALREADY KNEW THAT! Why tell me something I already know?

Edit: To Choark: Yeah, The sword is supposed to be huge. I intended it to be a broad sword, but making it thin at the base of the blade and get wider would look ugly, Anti Aliasing to smooth the lines + Transparency= UGLY! It also really gives him some personality and a feeling of power in his slash. <p>

Okay.

...No, I'd have to say that looks -pretty dumb-.

Now, you also didn't address the rest of my points. Namely, the fact that the armor looks like it's been painted by a five year old. <p><Chat> <Matto says, "What's up?"

Regarding how I shaded the armor, I Think It looks somewhat good as it is. It would help me a great deal if you could show me an example of what you think would look better. That, or as some people at Pixelation do, just edit it yourself to show me what you mean. I say this largely because it helps me if people have an example of what they are talking about, rather than leaving me in the dark as to how to fix it. <p>

*Descends upon the thread*

Ok Lothar. Look at your character's chestplate. For all practical purposes, it looks like an umpire's chest protector (you know, like in Baseball?). That or a big Grey Sweater, especially from the side angles. They don't do it any kind of justice at all.Image

-Some Possibly Helpful Tips, one sprite editor to another-
-Segment or section the chest-torso armor if at all possible. Rarely (if any) do knights' chestplates reach that far. Shorten it, divide it up like real armor. The armor of a knight, or someone with armor on in general, never is THAT solid looking. They segmented it usually closer to the lower belly/ass/crotch area. So as to not limit upper body movement as much, as well as better protect the lower body and private areas.
- If you need something to go by, look at these sprites.

www.geocities.com/cyberfe...xdraco.gif

www.geocities.com/cyberfe..._green.gif

They're from the game that these sprites of yours are obviously based on. Draco, and an Imperial soldier. Look at how their armor is done. There's small details, emphasis with the shading. It doesn't look like a gradient job. There's "real" shine in Draco's armor. As well as the shaded/dark parts of his armor. They're an entirely different color all together. A dark grey-ish blue. The highlights on the Imp. Soldier's armor are placed in certain spots to make the armor (the soldier in question) look more muscular and intimidating.
-Add in some of that blue collar that's on the FFT pic you edited for your character. Put in something to break up all that grey space on the armor. Not too much on the front, but really go for it on those side angles, make it not look like a big chunk of grey strapped onto your character's body. Darken the armor near the arms, to show shadow, in areas that you know light from that angle won't be showing or hitting.

Specially with the Non-moving side angle sprite. It makes your character look like some guy in a cheap disco outfit.

-Extra Tip: Look at pics of real-life armor if needed.

I hope that this helped in any possible way. I'm not the best at explaining things at times. Image <p>"I try to entertain you, the best I can. I wish I'd started walking before I ran." --Ozzy "Gets Me Through"</p>

Before I begin reshading, I've added the blue collar, and reuploaded. Now to redo the animations...
What do you think?

(Edit: Added collar to animations)

(Edit2: I've noticed there have been decidedly neagive comments on these. Why isn't anyone mentioning things they think look good? I'd like some positive comment too!) <p>

Looks like a good start in the right direction, Lothar. Image

Course all you need to do is rework the armor and shading like you said you were going to do and I'm pretty sure you'll have some decent sprites on your hands.Image Image

Good luck on the reshading and other stuff. Image <p>"I try to entertain you, the best I can. I wish I'd started walking before I ran." --Ozzy "Gets Me Through"</p>

I've begun reshading, and I would like to know how it looks so far. I've reuploaded the sheet and will also link it here for viewing conveiniance. I haven't segmented it yet, just reshaded so far.

Image

How does what I've reshaded so far look?

EDIT: Side views reshaded. I'm reshading first, then I'll segment it.

EDIT2: I've reshaded 2 more poses. So far so good? <p>

Something's bugging me about the battle-ready standing sprites. Armor's too dark, perhaps, or too big.

Also, the line thickness issue hasn't been addressed at all. If you're going to use pixels the size that FF6 uses, then keep all of them that large. But if you're going to use smaller pixels (like the ones you used for the shield) then you have absolutely no excuse as to why the rest of him looks so blocky by comparison. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. You asked for comments. You got critique. We try to encourage critiqueing instead of just "Oh that's great." Or "Wai!"

When you put something up, you have to expect the possibility that the other people are going to have a different view point of all this. <p>
