Sounds like an OK guy to me. Kind of an inelegant way to go about it, though. Quite a bit more collateral damage than is necessary.

The problem is that would have meant that we 'd have Cheney now, and that would likely be even worse.

I think someone would have tried to blow him up RIGHT away...

Also, this means the streak's not broken! Every president elected in a year divisible by 20 is killed, dies, or has his life directly threatened (unless you count someone trying to fly a plane into his house).

Oh well. I'm sure the next couple of presidents will be fine. I mean, who'd EVER want to hurt Barack Obama? :)

You know, I've thought about this before, and I'm pretty convinced that a successful assassination of Bush would be a political catastrophe. Can you imagine the outrage that'd pour if the U.S. president was killed--let alone by a foreigner, while abroad? With Bush drawing hate from nearly every political sector in the nation, I can't see anyone remotely like him getting into office next year--but if he's assassinated, he (and his policies) are already halfway to martyrdom. And that's before one party, or another, or any specific politicians try to benefit from it.

I am fully aware that Bush has done a lot of shitty things.

I don't like that he used 9/11 as an excuse to 'finish what daddy started' in Iraq.

I don't like how stubborn he is about everything, especially Iraq.

I don't like that many people have died over there, because of his war.

...but reading what you just said Brian pisses me off, to be perfectly honest.

I'm trying to figure out why this is getting me so riled up. Even more than what Bush himself has done, which I know has lead to many people being killed over there.

But I can't think of a logical reason for this. I'm trying, but coming up blank here.

Maybe it's the fact I'm reading someone I know basically saying "I want this person to die". I dunno. =/

Ok, while I think Dave is speaking from emotion and stuff, I tend to agree.

My issue is that while I firmly believe (and could dig up citations if necessary) that Bush and several of his advisors are war criminals, I don't actually fancy the idea of having legitimate leadership and succession in America determined by assassination.

Just a thought.

What? Jaded commentary from an armchair political analyst on an internet forum? NEVER!!!

It's kinda funny, I never really cared much about politics until the Bush administration. I'm just showing the same respect for life that they've shown through their various policies and decisions.

I refer you to my previous statement.

I'm not saying, "assassinating him is wrong." Even if it is objectively wrong, I don't know the grand will of the universe better than he does. I can say that it's a ridiculously gigantically awful precedent to set. This makes it a bad idea even if I can't build a solid case for its moral bankruptcy.

What? No, I took no offense (or even disagreement) at what you were saying, Kai. I was mostly just replying to Dave and poking some fun at myself.
