Why? It's only tangentially related to video games. It's some muggers holding up a group of people for money. It just so happened that the group was a line waiting for a PS3, but I don't see any reason to expect the muggers cared about that. <p>

Maybe the muggers figured there'd be a tonne of people with cash out and about for the PS3 releae? And there's also the guy who got his PS3 stolen, either to be sold on or played by someone else who really, really wanted it (for some reason).

Dammit Jak, stop stealing my ideas! <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. This happens at sell-out concerts, sporting events, and Super Wal-Mart grand openings, too. Why should anybody care? <p>

Ya'll are forgetting the most important thing: Resale value!

I also fail to understand why people are getting so worked up about this PS3 thing. Not like it's gonna have wario fartting in any of the games or anything.

My thoughts exactly. Then again I'm tainted by the British gaming press, all of whom seem to have something (or many somethings) against the PS3.

According to TIME magazine, it's not worth stealing anyway.

And another source says that Sony is losing $300 on every PS3 they sell anyway, so what's a few stolen units? <p>

Yeah, I'll give you that one. Don't think he will, but wouldn't be surprised if he did. <p>

Thompson pitches a fit if Ronald McDonald faces south, though. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. In January, during the traditional post-Chrimbo sales, I am buying a PS2. That's not a typo, a T W O. It's not as if the second the next console comes out all the old games aren't fun any more. Hell's bells, last summer I pulled out my old Mega Drive (Genesis) and booted up Sonic the Hedgehog. So much fun. So, with the sales and the release of the new console, I figure I'll grab a PS2, a couple of dance mats, and some DDR games and possibly Guitar Hero for under $200.

Just so you know, this is what my girlfriend and I are buying each other for Christmas this year. We're just splitting the price of the machine. I like my relationship.

My family is doing the same thing with the TomTom portable GPS doohickey. Probably because half of my family can't navigate their way out of a paper bag with MapQuest directions. <p>-_-___-___-___-_-
