So, what's the status of this event for this year?
I mean, how many RPGWWers are going to attend?

I may be attending, with emphesis on "may" and "be." Depends on my employment status at the time!

Still feel a little burned about last year. Plus there's the fact that the majority of people who would attend actually live in Ohio now. *shrugs*

As always, it depends on community interest, and on not having Joe show up two days before the con asking "So when are we leaving?"

Image

It occurred to me the other day that if I want to attend--and I do--that I should check into seeing when this is occurring this year! So I headed on over to
sugoicon.org
for the relevant details. I opened the links with faith and found...!
27-29 OCTOBER 2006

Holiday Inn CINCINNATI-AIRPORT
1717 AIRPORT EXCHANGE BLVD.
ERLANGER, KY 41018
(859) 371-2233

Boo for changing the dates to earlier. It's inconvenient for me. :[ As for the location, this is the hotel where Sugoicon 2002 was held. It would seem it's where the 00-01 Sugoicons were held, as well. It's directly off an exit from 275 in KY--should be smooth driving to get there, provided you aren't driving the intermastates during rush hours.

The directions are exceptionally easy for those coming from the noth or south: coming from the north, get onto I-75 south and follow until the exit for 275-W; take 275-W until the Mineola Pike exit (exit 2). The hotel is blatantly obvious from there, and actually has been since a little before the exit. If you're coming from the south, you do much the same except for taking I-75-N.

Found this in the forum:
"It is a hotel and convention center. I'm not going to go deeply into the reasons as to why we moved b/c it isn't really necessary. This location was very supportative to us in the past and allowed us a lot more freedoms and liberties that we have not had as of late.

"Yes we will have less space, but we feel that we can offer an equally good convention at this location."
-- thehud
Does this mean vendors will be able to sell snacks other than Pocky?! Only time will tell!

I'd like to attend, but would have to be hosted, and brought there. Well, most likely hosted anyway. I guess it depends on whether or not people in Virginia (not RPGWWers, just the general populace) decide to stop being shit heads long enough to let my family support itself, and I can keep some money around for said event. We'll see. :{

Ah. Reason I asked was I have a good chance at actually going this year (Yeah, I've said this many times before. Not getting my hopes up) and I hope to actually be a part of the shenanigans this year instead of hearing about it or being part of the aftermath when everyone is too tired. :(

School plans changed, and insurance companies decided to stop being dicks, so you can bet I'm gonna try my damnedest to be there. I wanna meet you. >: Neb too, consarnit. If someone gives me a place to sleep (which, with the noise I make in my sleep, asks alot), and I can figure out a way there... Obviously, the entry fee for a con isn't nearly as much as all the other things, ya know?

So yeah. Very much trying to come. I'll try to get money for a room, obviosly, but it would be so awesome if someone could host me. I'd ask Priam, but he's got alot of people hanging around as it is.

Edit: The train will cost me about $104. I am so coming.

Edit the Second: It's been explained to me that for all this to work out well, people are gonna need to stay at the hotel, or hotels close by. So, I can get a room at the hotel where the event will be for $92 a night. Since my current plan, for the sake of not being utterly exhausted, is to spend from the 26th (at 3 fucking AM, because the train services are utter bitches. x_x) to the 1st (Again, bitches. I wanted to leave on the 29th or 30th)... I need people to split the room with. Ideally, since it's a double, I'd like that to be 3 people including myself, with each of us payying $122 each... Or else at a streach, four of us at $92 each. And then I'd have to spend the fifth night with someone. I just can't see being able to pick up another $92 after that.

SO.

Anyone wanna room with Bes?

Also: I need to talk with different people about those arrival and leaving times yet, seeing as while the hotel and the station are in the same city, you're still hauling yourself to a train station at 3 in the morning to wait for me to show up. And on and on. Blah. This is my last edit for the night. Need to talk to Chris and Priam. :{

There's a Travelodge in Florence, KY, off US 42 which I suggested for Sugoicon in days past. It's still convenient for this location--there's probably more convenient hotels, for that matter, given that this hotel really is out in nowhere. It's rates are high only because it's en route to the airport.

Any rate, the Travelodge is somewhere around $40-60 a night? It's a really shitty place to stay, but that's some significant savings. Drivings will be necessary, because there's no noteworthy busing in suburbia from suburbia to suburbia.

Also, I'm pretty sure there's corresponding discounts at travelcoupons.com

I may be able to attend, depending on my parents' willingness to foot the bill and whether anything hugely important school-wise comes up near the end of October.

Just don't expect me to drive, or God forbid bring my own car. I'll probably have to play hanger-on with one of the travelodge residents.

Zem, KoD, if each of you can get HALF of a million dollars, and give it to me, I can spend one day dressed up as Zem, and another dressed as KoD, and I will effectively be your body doubles.

So far so good. I've been planning out things for that week and weekend. As far as I know, we're going to reserve a room for the duration of the convention (Sorry, guys. It'll just be for Chris and I.)
As of now, I'm still planning to go. I'll let you guys know which hotel we'll be at as soon as I find out.

Room situations:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my understanding of the room breakdown.

Sarah and I in one.

Jak, BW, Dia, Koss in another.

Pervy, Neb, Sister of Pervy, Bes, and Reako in the last.

My parents gave the OK on this (which is especially good 'cause I can't even cover the hotel fees with my own cash) so I should be able to join up if there's still time/space.

Rooming with <s>Gildward</s> Reako works just fine for me.

So that's why we're getting a two-person room... oh well. My roommate's 'snored' a bit this year due to allergy problems, so I should survive.

Also, Update: my parents seem to be worried about me going on the train solo, so I may be bringing someone else. Whether it ends up being my sister or tagging along with some random RPI guy heading there as well, I'm not sure, but if they don't have room plans already it may end up tacking on another person.

... Speaking of which, I don't suppose Squintz would have any interest in going?

The BW room has now officially been reserved. That'll be Alex, Diane, Mike, and myself, presumably. You guys better not be like Chuck and actually pay your share! Although in his defense, he did pay it about three or four times, it's just that apparently the US hates mail from Canada or something.

I hit it for Thursday - Saturday, 'cause that's what it looks like DM is trying to do. If that doesn't work out for anybody, mentioning it sooner would be preferable to later.

Image

I'm curious if anyone knows how to contact these people at Sugoicon.org other than sending them e-mails and posting on their seemingly inactive forums?

We've sent payment for preregistration over a month ago and have yet to see anything regarding our status. We've sent e-mails and I've gone as far as to post on their forums. No answer. (Well, not on the forums yet, I expect. I just posted there and the post before me was made on August 28th without a response. But we've e-mailed a ton of times and have yet to get a response.)
This is starting to become midly irritating to say the least. I hope it'll get straighten'd out, soon.. because this is really poor customer service.

The plan has changed! Well, a little. We've found an airline that will give me a decent rate on a direct flight to Dayton on the relevant days. I'm probably still coming in on the 26th, but now I won't be showing up at 3AM the next morning. Rather, I can probably show up closer to 9 AM the same morning. I don't have to stay until the first anymore, so I'll probably leave on the 29th or 30th. I'd prefer the 30th! I'd like input from Priam on this, since it's his house I'd be borrowing for part of the time.

Mmm... 1 hour flight time. Instead of 13 hour train time. =D

Edit: I forgot to mention: I can show up in Dayton now, instead of showing up in Cinccy. Much more convenient for anyone picking me up, I hope. :o

It'll be tight, but I personally don't mind myself, despite you'll be sharing the couch with Jak.

I'll point Priam in the direction of this thread. Or ask him. Whatever.

Edit: Me and Priam are down, and I doubt Neb would have an issue. If she does, she should bring it up!

Yeah, yeah, I'm coming. I won't really be with the group too much, though - my parents and I will be stuck to a room for ourselves there. (Since I can't drive out and all other transport methods ended up being annoying.) I should arrive late Friday, maybe early Saturday depending on whether we can feasibly make it before check-in closes.

My question would be how to coordinate actually seeing any of you guys, aside from the obvious 'look for the corn sign' tidbit.

Also, I MAY get the chance to bring my half-assed Dan Hibiki costume. Ponytail not included. Depends on whether I have any free time whatsoever this weekend and next week, after considering all the hassles I've had with homework assignments and the like recently.

I probably should have figured this out earlier, but those staying in my room owe me $76.80 for their share. That's $307.20 divided four ways. Yes, that includes tax.

Image

Things Chris(and Priam?) should know:

Our air matresses don't hold air anymore, for some reason. I won't be brining them because they'd be useless to anyone using them. Sorry folks. :-/ Please inform Pervy someone? I believe I promised him one of these things and if he has an alternative he needs to snatch it up.

I managed to get my money! $165 of it anyway. Hopefully enough that I can pay for food without mooching off of anyone. I've done enough of that as is. >_>; If I have any extra at the end of things I'll hand it over for room expenses.

Flying out there tomorrow, projected arrival time is 5:30 PM. High altitudes do something very weird to my head; If I act drunk when I'm picked up, please let it slide until I recover about 10 or 20 minutes later. No worries, it's never gotten bad enough to make me hurl, your car's interior should be safe.

I won't be on tonight, because I'm going to need most of my free time to get ready. Chris has my cell number and I'll have that on me at all times, so call me as necesary. See you tomorrow!
