So, I'm in research methods, and doing a research project on opinions about mental illnesses on my campus. I'll be comparing it by major and amount of psychology credits, to see how that affects one's opinion. I've been struggling with getting the research- it's not that it isn't out there, it's that this school's selection of psychology journals stinks. I've ordered twice the amount of articles I've actually found on the shelves or online. My literature review is waaaaay behind as a result, but I have an understanding prof, and I'm ahead in every other part of my project.

Aaaaanyway, just thought I'd open up a dialogue. If anyone's interested in taking the questionnaire, let me know. I need practice with coding and crunching the numbers in SPSS before I tackle the real thing. <p><div style="text-align:center"></div></p>

Sounds interesting. You have my sympathy on SPSS. The version we have on the lab computers here are all horribly buggy and slow, making number crunching an even more tedious prospect.

I bought SPSS last semester, so I can do it all on my own awesome laptop, which makes that part easier.

I just intend to have 300+ people on my list to interview, so I'll have a LOT of numbers. O_o;;; <p><div style="text-align:center"></div></p>

SPSS wouldn't be so bad if I could, y'know, FIND things... if the name of the function I want to use matched up with the name I'm looking it up under, that would be really useful.

On the other hand, it's great for making charts when necessary. It might take a while until you figure out how to rename everything, but it's AWESOME for charts.

EDIT: Guess I should talk about my research. I'll be using the OMI (Opinions about Mental Illness scale, (Cohen and Struening, 1962). I'm actually using the OMICC, which is the Opinions about Mental Illness in the Chinese Community, because that's the only one I can get my grubby paws on without having to pay the publishing company for it. It's been modified back for the American community by a student who used it before me, since it was all she could get her grubby paws on, either. Why must the publishing companies make research so difficult?!)

AAANYway, the questionnaire consists of 36 components measured on a 5-item Likert scale (strongly agree, agree, no opinion, disagree, strongly disagree) so I'll probably IM people over the weekend and administer it. Sorry I didn't respond right away. Spring Break happened! That's how my research went; I went to Cincinnati and put down a reservation on an apartment, and harassed various places of employment with my resume in the vain hope that one of them might, y'know, CALL ME BACK.

Thus far, none have. -_-;;

I need to do more interviews, but so far, my findings are interesting. I'm curious how they will compare with the students on campus. <p><div style="text-align:center"></div></p>

I would be willing to participate, or at least see the questionnaire.

Also, I'd love the final results of your work if you'd be willing to share. I also offer my services if you'd like some peer review on the technicalities of English, flow, and whatnot before turning in any written reports. I don't think I'd be so good with helping you with the procedures, and I would like as not be biased at any rate. <p>
