My dream has come true, I am now officially an old man.

I've been diagnosed with arthritis.

Some of you know that I've had a bum lower leg since about october/novermber that I've always been meaning to see a doctor about. Today, I got a kick in the pants in that direction when my hip started displaying similiar traits, and I could not get it and my leg to agree to have a position where they weren't in awful pain; which started 15 minutes after I woke up. And after about ten minutes, I knew that something was very wrong.

I spent a good hour and a half on my mom's bed, completely miserable and in enough pain that I was often crying out, whilst numerous muscles were spasming. I could hardly move, and it took me like five minutes, with help, to get up and get to the car, where I was helped in back and taken to the hospital. Thankfully, the walking helped tremedously, and the pain became tolerably annoying.

After being drug out and placed on a wheeled gurney by orderies, I got to spend about an hour and a half laying on my back, trying to be comfortable, and feeling well enough to be bored. Some reflex tests were done, my muscles probed and examined, and some X-rays taken. It was found I have some arthritis at the base of my spine, which reaches down my left leg. I was given some Vicodin, and prescriptions for that, Ibuprofen, and a muscle relaxer whose name I cannae recall.

We don't know why I had such a bad attack, but my theory was that I slept on it badly. I'm now to take a good walk every few hours, and visit my doctor come monday. Right now, I'm just mildly sore, and have problems standing up on my own. I'm hoping the soreness doesn't get worse once the vicodin wears off.
---------------------------

They didn't, perchance, prescribe you Vioxx?

Also, my friend Magnus suffers from similar problems and has for a good portion of his life--in fact, he's started walking with a cane. >.o I know it's gotta be a pain in the ass. Hope you don't have too many issues...

After being post 6 back surgeries, I imagine the pain is somewhat similar to what my Father goes through on a regular basis, in a different location.

I can't say I know what the experience is like, but I've seen similar. Sorry to hear it, and I hope they can do something to reduce the pain long term. :-/

Image

It's called Robaxin.

So far, my main problem is that I lack a good place to...do things. See, I usually lay down on my bed to do my readings, typing (I have a laptop, some may recall), and so on. Thing is, I can't lay down without getting stiff in short order. Because my left leg is most out of commision, it is very hard for me to move once laying down. Sitting up is a particular trial.

I'm working on correcting this.
---------------------------

Perhaps a treadmill on which you could fit your laptop?

There is something called freecycle (haha, it's a pun, see?) People are all like "Hey, we have all this stuff, but it's been laying around for ages, and we don't use it; let's see who wants it for free!" Cuz it keeps usable stuff out of landfills and whatnot.

I've seen people give away exercise equipment, amongst other things. So if that'd help, then I could hook you up with a Dayton freecycle ring to post a wanted note on.

And totally non-seriously...

Hurrah for old man Pervy! I shall cheer for you and be your semi-crotchety attack minion.

Lex: I am *expanding!*

She might well be. Contact me later with this, sis?

Anyways...Going to make a follow-up visit to the docotr come Thursday. Overall, the drugs, and hopefully some natural healing, have kept me from being too miserable. Sore at times, but managably so for the most part.

If I get my prescriptions refilled, it probably won't be vicodin. I'm going to a clinic that's free for people at the poverty line, and I think my family is close enough to get it. But the doctor does not prescribe narcotics, to discourage addicts from coming in and lying to his face. Given it's in a really rrundown part of town, where that sort of thing is a problem, I dun blame him. I'm just hoping I can qualify for a free visit, as we really can't afford it beyond the first time...
