Vaan, Extraneous Main Character Extraordinaire. I didn't HATE him (Krile is, thus far, the only FF character I've out-and-out HATED), and he served his purpose gameplay-wise (balanced, slightly speedy guy), but, as a CHARACTER? Not really feeling him. I at least resonated with Tidus for his fish-out-of-water status in the game, but Vaan (and Penelo, while we're at it) could be excised from the plot with next to no effect on the story.

... now that I think of it, y'know what they should have done?

They should have bished up Basch more, and maybe de-aged him a bit. In other words, they should have made him LOOK like your stereotypical, only-thing-Japanese-audiences-will-accept FF main character, but kept him JUST the same. That would have worked for everybody. But no. We're stuck with Vaan. ... dammit.

... what were we talking about...? Oh yeah, Mickey. Here's hoping Epic Mickey doesn't suck.

While I've not played FF12 to judge myself, I've heard that having Basch as the far more interesting and plot important character can be considered and attempt at a storytelling technique.

Also, his age and grizzled appearance are a consequence of spending time in prison, aren't they? It would break whatever little immersion there was to be had if they found a squeaky clean bishounen character with obligatory oversized phallic weapon in the bottom of a prison in chains. For war crimes no less! Anyway, FF12 had both good points and bad. It's not like, say, FFX-2 which is just all bad.

Also, since we're on the topic: How many liked FF Mystic Quest, and how many people feel like it never should have happened?

Mystic Quest was AWESOME back in the day. I mean, yeah, it was kind of on-rails and hand-holdey, but it had a lot of character, didn't take itself too seriously, and the music was badass.
Anime is kind of like fish in that it is better the less "fishy" it is.

I played for 5 minutes, went "Ugh", and never touched it again.

And I can think of six good things about X-2...

(Hint: There are three female main characters...)

I'm detecting a theme here when it comes to mine and Cha's interests.

Cha needs to play more DoA games. And then watch Girls Gone Wild for six hours straight. Take this regimen three times a week for a month.

Personally I like to imagine something the size of a baby hippo, the color of a week-old boiled potato, that lives by itself, in the dark, in a double-wide on the outskirts of Topeka. It's covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. The sweat runs into those eyes and makes them sting. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections."

I'm a fan of Soul Calibur. And despite my enjoyment of the feminine boob, I wouldn't want to give Joe Francis money, for obvious reasons.

Graphical tits. That's where it at. Why buy the cow when you can look at the milk-carton for free?

Eh. Not worth the effort when there a billion zillion porn sites out there.

Like Richard Jeni said, "Type in 'Find people that have sex with goats that are on fire' and the computer will say, 'Specify type of goat.'"
