I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT TO MAKE.

Spore is okay, but hasn't lived up to its hype to the degree I was expecting. The editors are fun to use and very intuitive, but not worth the $50 price tag. Sad but true.

Every day I see another person who has been disappointed by Spore. I'm still confused by this.

Sorry Jak, but I'm still not happy with it. :(

Tribal stage is FAR too restricted and dealt with as if it was a minor inconvenience you had to do to get to Civ stage. There was none of that "introduce a variety of tools and see what your creatures do," at least not in the variety that was told.

And space stage overwhelmed me and, frankly, I didn't find it that interesting. :/ Haven't even gone close to Genesis device, but I don't think I will until I hit the next holidays and have some free time over.

Wait... you guys paid 50 dollars for this?

We had to pay close to 75 for it! >:C

I paid something like 60 and I'm perfectly happy with it. I can't understand how people aren't deriving overwhelming joy from building up their creatures from a single cell organism to a space faring race.

I can see your point on tribal, though. The first time I played it I had no trouble and it was all pretty basic. The second time I played it, however, I found myself having to micromanage quite heavily to keep various tribes placated while fending off frequent attacks and generally keeping my village running. Civ phase has yet to be challenging, though.

I'm wondering if anyone has reached space mode yet, though.

Well, I have for one, as I mentioned. Reached Space age, that is.

It's just... too overwhelming. It gives you very little directive and the game suddenly jumps from fairly restricted to completely free... except it's still just "go from point A to point B to collect material C and bring to point D"

My impression of it anyway. It feels tedious, but then again it's exactly the same kind of feeling I derived from playing both Sims games and something I more or less knew, deep down, I'd feel about Spore as well.

I can't really put my finger on why I'm not feeling any glee over this game; the most fun I derived from the Creature creator simply because me and a couple of friends did ridiculously ugly things that would have never evolved naturally.

It even got to the point where I considered simply downloading some base buildings 'cause I didn't feel motivated into making my own. But I did anyway. Minus points for you not getting ANY bonus points based on how you design them. You just got to puzzle 'em around, but basicly you can build a huge Hexadron with a door and your civilization will be creaming their pants to live in them.

I just feel that the game is half-assed. Instead of aiming to perfect every stage of the game, it feels as if they blew their entire creative load on the creature editor and then just "meh"'d the rest of it.

I know this ought to be in the serious discussion thread, but I still have a shitload of angst to vent over this game. It's exactly as Spleen said; the game is ok, I'm just not doing somersaults over it.

The first shots of bacterial stage looked a lot cooler than oogly-googly eyes by the way. I hate the design-choices they made. But that's just me.
