Jim Davis - The Buffoon

Unread postby Christian » Thu Feb 28, 2008 9:48 am

Yes, indeed, it is time. Time again for all of you to interact with me!

So, as we know, there are only two things certain in life, death and Garfield.

What <s>Half-assed</s> witty and amusing strip did Jim Davis chug out on the day you were born?

"How am I supposed to know that!?" You say with righteous indignation!

If you'd listened for a sec I would've told you. Anyway.

http://www.garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1986-ga860425

Here's the strip for the day I was born. I want you to post your own, and we'll have a vote or something similar as to who was the luckiest one to have... well... the funniest Garfield strip.

Are you with me?

I can't seem to get it to work right for me (Flash won't register when I clicks it), so yeah. If someone could pull up December 8th 1982, that'd be great

And because I have to.

The Flash bit didn't work for me either: Luckily, I figured out how to do it in the address bar.

Code: Select all
Example:
http://www.garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1980-ga800807
Format: comics_archives_strip.html?(four digit year)-ga(two digit year)(two digit month)(two digit day)

http://www.garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1980-ga800807
August 7th, 1980
http://www.garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1970-ga700513
May 13th, 1970
http://www.garfield.com/comics/comics_archives_strip.html?1984-ga840301
March 1st, 1984
etc.

Oh, so that's how it works. Thanks, Bes! I didn't care enough to figure it out.

Perhaps this strip explains why I'm so emo.
Anime is kind of like fish in that it is better the less "fishy" it is.

"You haven't told me what I'm looking for."
"Anything that might be of interest to Slitscan. Which is to say, anything that might be of interest to Slitscan's audience. Which is best visualized as a vicious, lazy, profoundly ignorant, perpetually hungry organism craving the warm god-flesh of the anointed. Personally I like to imagine something the size of a baby hippo, the color of a week-old boiled potato, that lives by itself, in the dark, in a double-wide on the outskirts of Topeka. It's covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. The sweat runs into those eyes and makes them sting. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections."
--Colin Laney and Kathy Torrance, William Gibson's Idoru

When I imagine this one without Garfield, I am deeply troubled.

Well, at least it has a skull in it.

Seriously, though, what has been the internet's fascination with Garfield lately? First Lasagna Cat, then Penny-Arcade mentions it, now this...
"Well slap a dead fish on me and call me Molokidan!"

Mine's a touch morbid, which is pretty par for the course.

What we really need to do is find someone born the week of Oct 23-28, 1989. Old, but obligatory.

That skeleton is actually really impressive, by Jim Davis standards.

This thread is actually kind of interesting. Garfield is so generic and nondescript, it's interesting to see what ways your brain can come up with to link these birthday strips to the people whose conceptions they celebrate.

It's just like astrology!

You know...

I just realized, I have REALLY crappy knees. I generally can't sit on them for more than a couple of seconds, or the pain gets bad enough to make me faint. I've got low bloodpressure as well, so I'm used to limp limbs, waking up with a "stranger's" hand on my chest, etc.

Damn you Garfield, you cursed me to an eternity of suffering!

...God... and to think that I used to buy and read the early years of Garfield...

I will say, I loved the cartoon though. Garfield and friends was superb.
