I caught that earlier thanks to Kotaku. That is some of the coolest crazy emulation shit I've seen in a long time.
Anime is kind of like fish in that it is better the less "fishy" it is.

If I recall correctly, the Let's Play subforum loves to regularly punish themselves with rom hacks like this... the recordings are typically hundreds of deaths followed by hundreds of inevitable save state reloads followed by hundreds to thousands of swear words. Perhaps the author of that article, in describing Kaizo Mario as some sort of '(apparently) enjoyable puzzle game' saw some sort of appeal in it that I did not. Ah well.

Oh, and the video itself was amusing.

One of the things I found to be both very funny and very creepy was the "fake win" near the end, before he decided to get the stars. Mario just walked off and faded out.
