This might be old news now but... KOF XI

There are some heated arguments around about whether capcom or snk is the better fighting game company. But, I don't buy into that.
This game has flame users instead of gi brothers but it's the same idea. I don't really have a problem with this.
The game has its head shoved up its own rear-end in terms of story, which you know, I couldn't give a crap about since it's a fighting game and all.
There's a nice mixture of fighting styles and characters I guess, but some of the ultimate godly moves are insane to pull off.
The missions are an interesting idea, but some of the clues could have explained what you are actually supposed to do a bit better.
I don't get this love affair with white and light blue.
The bosses are super cheap and ultra cheap, respectively.
I like that Magaki has an "I beat you" quote for pretty much everyone, but all the other characters seem to only have one thing to say.
WHERE'S ROCK HOWARD? : (

I lost interest in KOF after 2003, but what i can tell you is, Im sorry, but our Rock Howard is in ANOTHER TIME LINE.
And you should had known by #11 that ultra cheap bosses is a signature feature on SNK fighting games.

The Challenges aren't actually all that bad so long as you know the terminology. Which, having beaten all of them in the Japanese version a year ago, I was quite comfortable with, myself. Still, it's good to have it in a form that doesn't require a disk-swapping method.
Also, Magaki has his uses. Mostly in said challenges. Especially the one where you fight the midbosses. Other than that, yeah, fuck him.
I'm a little undecided on what I think about KoF in general. On one hand, it's really, really fun. On the other hand, the combo system is a bit on the wonky side, and feels clunky. Then again, I'm used to Guilty Gear's absolute insanity that they call a combo system.
I also don't know what you mean about white and light blue. Are you picking the X-button costume for everybody, every time? That might be why you keep seeing it.
I really enjoy this game. We actually had a resurgence of its popularity this weekend here at the Glorious Condo. Good times.

I guess I should have mentioned that this is actually the first KOF game I've ever played.
I care not for timelines, Rock is the best, he should raging storm the time space continuum and kick the crap out of Ash and all the other flamers.
Edit:
Actually, for the white and light blue, I was speaking of the character select and loading screens.
And I was referring to fighting against CPU bosses. Sadly, I don't have a reliable supply of fighting game buddies. Otherwise, they might be more fun. I totally used them for certain challanges.

Oh, make no mistake, SNK bosses are known for their cheap-assedness. Since the first Fatal Fury, even.
And it's likely that the next KOF game (Max Impact does not count) will have Rock in it, considering they brought Gato and Tizoc and B. Jenet and Hotaru in. I would be very surprised if Rock did not show up in the next installment. And maybe Marco/Khushnood, too.

hmmm it makes sense for most of them, but, last time i saw Rock in KOF continuity was in 2003...he was shown a a little boy.
I guess by now it would be as old as his MotW counterpart, but i dunno, has there been shown any age progression on him?
Then again, if Hotaru is in...

By "white and light blue" I actually thought Clark was talking about super moves. I was wrong!
Anyway, KoFXI is great, and SFIII is great, in a different way. To argue over which one is better does a disservice to both games.
Also, since everyone is on a "characters I miss" trip, how about the inimitable Yamazaki and my personal favorite, Shermie?

They apparently missed the tournament so they could be in Neowave, along with Chang, Choi, Jhun, Joe, Mature, and Vice, among others.

As far as i know, Shermie is dead and only appears in out of continuity games.
Here is how i understand the Kof series works...
The Kof games are actually divided in sagas composed of 3 chapters. 95,96 and 97 was the orochi saga, 99, 00 and 01 was the Nests Saga and i dunno what 2003 saga was called, but let's call it "the Ash saga".
In between each saga, a Dream match KOF takes place, which are out of continuity, 98 and 2002 are dream matches, which explains why dead characters like shermie, chris, yashiro, mature and vice appeared, i guess neo wave falls unde this too. Also, i think 94 is cannon but does not belongs to any particular saga.

An alternate theory to the sagas is that there are four sagas so far: Rugal (94-95), Orochi (96-97), NESTS (99-01), and Ash/Heralds (03-???)
Also, I am saddened by the lack of mention of K' and Kula. Because they are awesome.

K' and Kula. There.
Also, yeah, I'd completely forgotten Shermie and Chris and Yashiro were dead. Well, presumably Chris is dead, with that Orochi business going on who can really say. But that is a good reason for Yashiro and Shermie (and Mature for that reason, I don't remember whether Vice also died) to not come back.
And before anyone else gets to it, yes, Geese has been dead a very, very long time. But he's Geese.
