The Unofficial Final Fantasy Tactics Character Thread

Unread postby Archmage » Wed Oct 24, 2007 1:55 pm

Tai and I were talking about how the re-release of FFT in the form of FFT: The Lion War for PSP has spurred a bit of Tactics-related discussion lately. Because I think Tactics is basically an endlessly discussable game because of its infinite customizability and high replayability. Continued discussion of the matter resulted in the idea that a thread be posted for people to put up FFT versions of favorite RP characters.

The point is generally to be fairly true to the character--the result doesn't have to be totally optimal gamewise or even good. The most interesting result is not necessarily a 97 brave blade grasping math skiller with teleport and a chameleon robe. Normally possible setups are preferred, but gameshark-only setups are fine as long as you note them as such.

Please use the old FFT names for things instead of the retranslated Lion War names if at all possible.

The battle mechanics guide for FFT is also a handy list of abilities and equipment if your rusty FFT memory needs sharpening.

I'll start:

Hakaril James Silvar
Birthdate: July 21, Sign: Cancer
High Brave (70+), mid Faith (50-60 max)
Job: Summoner

Summon Magic
Math Skill
Counter Magic (or MA Save)
Equip Sword
Move +3

Rune Blade
(Nothing)
Red Hood (Thief Hat is an acceptable, more optimal option)
Robe of Lords (Black Robe is suitable)
Red Shoes (Magic Gauntlet and Dracula Mantle are also okay)

For math skill, ONLY knows elemental magic (fire, ice, bolt), protect, shell, and holy.

Gameplay Analysis:

Hakaril can rip the battlefield apart with summons and math skill. The black robe strengthens his elemental magic; the rune blade and red shoes give him a minimum of +3 MA (he gets +4 MA if the robe of lords is used). Counter magic is occasionally handy against enemy mages. Equip sword is purely for style.

I had mention in the explanation of the topic, so it would probably be best if I were to post as well. Besides, it's interesting stuff. I haven't played the game nearly to the point of Brian, but the general outline of Tai would be as follows...

Taiar Siru Valcrist
Sign: Gemini
Brave: Higher End (75-80+)
Faith: Middle Lower (40-50)
Job: Dragoon

Abilities:
- Jump
- Yin/Yang Magic
- Blade Grasp
- Two Hands
- Teleport

Equipment:
- Optimal Equipment With Nothing Special, Teleport Range should be high however. It's a Mazoku thing.

Gameplay Analysis:
- The Dragoon Jump and Teleport allow Tai to move around the battlefield relatively unhindered, dealing great physical damage, Two Hands adding to that of course. Blade Grasp and hopefully high-end armor allow him to take punishment fairly well as well. Yin-Yang magic, more or less useless due to his lower Faith and less than impressive MA stat as a Dragoon, is more or less for show. It is very Mazoku-y in essence.

For an added bit of realism, never use White Magic on Tai.

Daniel Hyral
Sign: Leo
Brave: Higher End (75-80+)
Faith: Mid-High Faith (60-70)
Job: Knight

Abilities:
- Battle Skill
- White Magic
- Regenerator (Or Weapon Guard)
- Equip Spear
- Move: HP Up

Equipment:
Holy Lance
---
Crystal Helmet
Crystal Mail
Germinas Boots

Gameplay Analysis:
- Daniel suffers somewhat from his 'jack of all trades' status, as he doesn't use the same damage-boosting abilities as a pure melee-designed character. However, his abilities allow him to soak up a lot of damage, and regen his health at the same time. While he should primarily be going into the middle of enemies to soak up and deal damage, he can also use his white magic in a pinch to assist the rest of the party with healing and defense.

Kamos Mazuo
Sign: Scorpio
Brave: Higher-end (75-80+)
Faith: Low to Medium (30-50)
Job: Archer

Abilities:
-Charge
-Black Magic
-Abandon
-Equip Gun
-Move +3 (Alternatively, Fly)

Equipment:
Mithril Gun
-
Flash Hat
Black Costume
Feather Mantle

For Black Magic, Death and Flare are the only guaranteeds. I guess Ice-series and Bolt series can be argued.

Gameplay Analysis: Not exactly as good as he is in PS. Mithril Guns are known for being crappy lategame, and the MATK/Faith combo isn't exactly what one would call desirable. Regardless, mages still dislike the evasion/faith combo in question, and guns are still ITE against anything that isn't using Blade Grasp. Move somewhere out of reach, and start sniping, using magic on the ones that have Blade Grasp. Not that bad of a strategy. If he's allowed to use an Aegis Shield, then...well, consider him practically impossible to hit with magic. Doesn't like melee regardless.

If FFT:A counts then I guess Kylitos would be a Fencer with White Magic.

Sorry I don't have all the skills and items memorized though; I remember someone helped me with that last time.

Also Ned would be a Ninja.

And Remus would be a squire.

Someone needs to make a calculator by the name of TI-85.
"You haven't told me what I'm looking for."
"Anything that might be of interest to Slitscan. Which is to say, anything that might be of interest to Slitscan's audience. Which is best visualized as a vicious, lazy, profoundly ignorant, perpetually hungry organism craving the warm god-flesh of the anointed. Personally I like to imagine something the size of a baby hippo, the color of a week-old boiled potato, that lives by itself, in the dark, in a double-wide on the outskirts of Topeka. It's covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. The sweat runs into those eyes and makes them sting. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections."

TI-85
Brave: High (90)
Faith: 0 (Hey, Worker 8 has 0 faith)
Job: Calculator

Math Skill
Charge
Regenerator (He has rechargable batteries)
Maintenance (You wouldn't want it to break)
Any Weather (The TI series is highly versatile like that)

Gameplay Analysis: He's completely worthless at casting spells because he has 0 faith, but HE IS A MATH FIEND. HE DOES MATH. HE WILL SOLVE FERMAT'S LAST THEOREM AT YOU.

In the same vein:

Priam, Lord of the Condo
Brave: Mid-high (60-70)
Faith: Low (10)
Sign: I forgot your birthday
Job: Calculator

Math Skill
Punch Art
Hamedo
Martial Arts
Move+1

Cypress Rod
None
None
Leather Outfit
Sprint Shoes

Gameplay Analysis: He has Hamedo because he's tall and therefore has a good reach. That way he can beat you with his stick before you can hit him. I've never seen Priam wear a hat, so he doesn't have one here.

I am tempted to create an archer character just so I can give her FFTA's "return fire" counter ability.

God that was so fucking awesome.

But then that would mean I'd have to RP...
Anime is kind of like fish in that it is better the less "fishy" it is.
