Need help with science!

Unread postby Ark » Fri Sep 14, 2007 5:23 pm

Right, some of you lot are smart folks, or at least have access to books with information. Something odd happened and I need science wizz's such as yourselves to explain.

I have a AAA battery in my pocket.
I'm testing a game all day.
After 6 hours my pocket suddenly feels very, very warm.
I take the AAA battery out of said pocket and its burning the skin hot. Really goddamn you touch it and you yelp in pain hot. (I know, I passed it around the group.)
The battery has finally cooled after about 5 to 10 minutes.

So... How? How did this battery get so damn hot in my pocket?

The only 2 options presented thus far are:
1 - I'm a damn freak.
2 - After testing a puzzle game all day my latent physic powers are awakening.

Whats the real deal?

You had change or keys in that same pocket. Metal objects touch the two ends of the battery and conduct electricity to create current flow. Such a large amount of current with so little resistance means that current flows really, really fast, and the friction between the electron flow and the atomic mass of the metal generates heat. Which generates burnt Cho fingers.

It's covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. The sweat runs into those eyes and makes them sting. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections."

Aaaah Cool.

Well that answer clears everything up enough for me to actually not bother to question weither or not I had anything else in my pocket with the battery (as I normally don't) and just assume the answer was giving and I'm not turning into some battery heating mutant.

Thank you. Come Monday I'll be able to tell everyone and they'll all be
"Huh? What you talking about!?"
"You looked that up?!"
And negative comments such as that! Word! *high fives*

If that was it, you're also a bit lucky, since doing that can fairly easily make a battery explode, and that's not something you'd want happening in your pocket, I imagine. :science:

Alternately, if you did not have keys or change in that pocket, that's what you get for wearing metal pants. Or being a robot.

What if Cheney weren't set to "Ornery?"

"Why? Why was I programmed to feel pain?"
