Let's Decide: Let's Play?

Unread postby Endesu » Thu Sep 06, 2007 1:36 pm

Some of you (such as Zero and Idran) frequent the SA Forums.

Those of you familiar with the SA Forums may know a peculiar subform referred to as "Let's Play!".

"Let's Play"s often involve the goon in question running through the game, with screenshots and/or videos. Elaboration is provided at all points as to general mechanics/storyline issues/the like. To date, several titles have been completed, and you can witness several finished LPs at the LP Archive here.

MY QUESTION: Are the people here interested in a Let's Play of some sort? I have a few potential titles I'd be interested in running through for this purpose, and barring technical difficulties, should be able to get one up and running at some point in the not-quite-distant future.

I'd be interested, but I can't promise to take part if a game has to be run through completely. I usually just don't have the attention span to finish most of the games I play in a sitting. Whee.

I may be mistaken, but I believe End's talking about him doing one himself, Bes. There's not really any taking part on the part of the other folks, it's one guy that plays through a game for the entertainment and elucidation of others, over the course of multiple posts/sittings spanning a couple of weeks if not months. He just wants to know if we'd be interested enough to sit through one of his if he tried to do one himself.

Personally, I say go ahead, End. If you want to do it, then why worry how many folks here'd be interested? :D

I can dig it. Both on the very-little-input side of the thing, and possibly later on the doing-the-legwork side.

"Anything that might be of interest to Slitscan. Which is to say, anything that might be of interest to Slitscan's audience. Which is best visualized as a vicious, lazy, profoundly ignorant, perpetually hungry organism craving the warm god-flesh of the anointed. Personally I like to imagine something the size of a baby hippo, the color of a week-old boiled potato, that lives by itself, in the dark, in a double-wide on the outskirts of Topeka. It's covered with eyes and it sweats constantly. The sweat runs into those eyes and makes them sting. It has no mouth, Laney, no genitals, and can only express its mute extremes of murderous rage and infantile desire by changing the channels on a universal remote. Or by voting in presidential elections."

This is quite true, Idran, but there are a few other elements I would like to note.

1. You folks can make decisions as to what to do at critical junctures! Often times, there will be a choice that must be made. You people can make the choice, and I'll have to live with the consequences.

2. There are certain titles on which multiple folk can play at once, or if one is similarly interested in [title], can contribute to (as a guest contributor, natch) as well. For instance, I could start up a 2P LP of Gunstar Heroes, with Zero coming along for the ride as the second player.

I just want to be sure that people are not only interested, but may also contribute/interact when the event comes up!

I'm all for End doing this, but honestly, his vague topic made me consider something that might be fun as well.

Let's say we do some game that can run on an emulator, and we pass off the save file at specific junctures to each other to continue through the game, like a collaborative "Let's Play." This could be neat because we'd see each others' playing styles, or different things that different people pick up on, etc.

Of course, we'd need a group of people willing to do this and a game...but it's an idea.

I completely agree with this idea, as I'm reading someone do a Lets Play for System Shock 2 on the PA Forums.

I look forward to watching, and trying to find a game to share as well.

Ganon will link this LP he talks of, since I was about to yell at End to make SS2 the game he plays.

Also, he can still do SS2! YOU CAN PLAY IT SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS! :D

I just started a run through of it... Mostly because I never beat it when I first played it. But honestly, I think I could watch someone play it now, while I'm playing through it! IT'S FUN.

If by "many different ways" you mean "hacking + anything else" then sure! :D Seriously, hacking was one of the most useful things in the game. Especially at the very end.

Pah. I mean going completely OSA or Marines, with as little Hacking as possible. Though I agree, Hacking is the most fun way to go! :D

Sorry to disappoint you folks, but I've gone with a different yet similarly awesome first selection for an LP: 5 Days a Stranger. :3

Perhaps another time, eh lads?
