What if your character was in a fighting game?

Unread postby Spleen » Fri Jun 22, 2007 2:51 pm

I know we used to have these threads all the time, and at one point someone was actually gonna make an RPGWW fighting game, but lately I don't think we've been in touch with totally unnecessary cross-genre adaptations of our characters, and I feel like rectifying that in this spam thread, mostly because I'm bored and I've been playing SFA3 on Mame.

So what would your character be like if placed in a Street Fighter/Soul Calibur-style fighting game? Strengths, weaknesses, special attacks, taunts, voice, etc.

I'll start!

Seryntas

Seryntas is larger than most fighters, moves and attacks slowly, and does not jump well. However, he's got good reach with his greatsword and hits powerfully with sweeping attacks that are hard to dodge effectively. Also has good throws. Rumors of a secret, unlockable "Tarrasque's Gullet" stage are unfounded.

Stage: Doma City, Doma - Back Alley

Costumes: (normal) Heavy blue platemail with his trademark open helmet.
Same armor, but in red.
Same armor, but in silver.
(unlockable) Same armor, but in bubblegum pink.
(unlockable) Same armor, but in gold.
(unlockable) Slightly different armor with spikes, in green, with a deep scar down the left side of his face (supposed to be Seryntas's brother Sarakir, before I retconned him)

Entrance: Seryntas leaps onto the screen from the side, unsheaths his sword with one hand, rolls his shoulders, and squares up to fight.

Taunt: Seryntas leans his head back and roars.

Speech: "I ain't gonna go easy on yer ass."
"Long as I'm here, yer leavin' only on a sling or steppin' over me, and I be a little large to be steppin' over."
"I ain't a bad guy, I just approach good a little different."
"*grunt* Ready?"

Special attacks:
Steel Rush: Leaps forward, slashing from low to high with the sword. Often hits enemies into the air.
Cleave: Hefts sword above head, then slams it down on the enemy with a short hop. Slow (faster players can get away in the preparatory hefting), but powerful if it connects.
No Quarter: Quick three-slash combo. Most effective against cornered enemies.
Power Thrust: Quick, powerful thrusting attack that does good damage but has a slower-than-average cooldown, usually enough for a counterattack if the Power Thrust misses.

Super attacks:
Iron Age (I've always wanted to name an attack that): Everything on the screen turns black and white except for Seryntas and his opponent as Seryntas leaps forward. If he catches his opponent when he does so, he'll throw him/her to the ground and swing his sword down at them powerfully, doing a large amount of damage.
Frenzy: Seryntas begins to slash as fast as he can, over and over, each slash bringing him forward slightly. Maximum of a 10-attack combo.

Win stance: (1 round) Leans on his sword, grabs a handkerchief out from behind him, and wipes his forehead.
(Match) Sheaths his sword, then pumps his fists in the air, yelling.

Message on win:
"It's okay to lose, just don't ye be a wimp about it."
"Ye're not coming back soon to try me again, I hope. Ye'd be more than hurting next time."
"Tell you what, Leto, I won't fight with you. Zeus' wives are pretty tough customers. You have my permission to boast openly that you have beaten the daylights out of me."

spleen, you're so hot right now! <3

...erhm, anyway, this is my kind of thread, but are we sticking to just RPGWW chars? because i got only like...one, my old forgotten character, but i do this for my characters all the time.

for now, i wanted to share a game play mechanic i thought for a fighting game some time ago and i've been itching to share.

imagine each character having, in addition to the life and special gauge, a special, unique, character gauge which fill (or empties) on different conditions depending the character and triggers different effects, for example triggering transformations when a character's gauge fills up as the character recieves damage, or triggering an special attack.
would it work?

Hey, any characters would work. Some explanation of the character would be nice before you go into all the fighting game details, but sure, any character.

That's an interesting mechanic. Could work in a fighting game.

Quite a few characters from various games have what you speak Glu and they tend to work out fine. Theres a character from a Dojin game that works up her Blood Level, and another that builds up there Ice power. On a another level that Pirate Sunglasses dude from Guilty Gear has those coin things that help build up his moves, and from Jojo that girl with the red hood has a what level she's made the opponent magatised. It all works and it groovy. Heck it helps to personalise each and every character.

I did a design for my sister for a never even really started beat em up game once, I'll share it when I find the stuff. Also think of other stuff. Yeah.

EDIT:

Right, eh. My sister!
The animation is of her standing pose, awwwwwww, and the move you see is of her Sissors attack, which is basically a Hundred Hand Slap kind of move.
The third one is her Dash back, which has a set distance.

She moves quick, is a fairly small sprite (characters wouldn't have to duck to hit her but High attacks would probably miss), and fairly weak. Her special moves are
Blindness - where she throws stuff in peoples eye, that if hits temporalily stuns em.
Sissors - as said above
Egger - An extra Powerful slap that knocks the opponenet back.

So yeah.

*predicts Shaun C&Ping one of his Damian or Nakibe movelists...*

Also, the game Cho is referring to is Eternal Fighter Zero, a doujin game with, from what I have heard, girls from numerous dating sims and/or anime.

oh i know some characters do it, but im talking about having ALL the characters have gauges working in such ways, the closest a game has ever got to what im saying was certainly Jojo's bizarre adventure, as most of the characters had "stands" (the sort of sidekicks that helped with special moves) and each stand had a gauge, but some characters didn't have stands (or were stands themselves). you could say the idea spawned from such characters.

so anyways, let's chug out the first character:

-The ninja (img: http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p140 ... /ninja.png)

lil bio: Hiroshi Yamamoto comes from a legendary Ninja Clan, however, he doesn't want to be a ninja, because he believes ninjas do not have a place in modern society, so he is being forced to be a ninja, among other things.
His parents told him that if he proves to have real skills, by defeating any kind of enemy (including super powered freaks), they might let him do whatever he wants with his life.

Being a kid, he is short (probably higher than cho's girl) but not enough for any attack to miss, he takes a bit more damage than other fighters but makes up with ninja worthy speed. His moves are standard ninja stuff with some western street fighting moves thrown in, no crazy magical naruto style chakra here.

Costumes:
Normal -> as seen on the pic.
Color 2 -> same outfit in bright blue, Metal log.
Color 3 -> same outfit in bright orange, concrete Log.
other 1 -> baggy khaki pants and black shirt.
other 2 -> same as other 1, but with grey pants and green shirt, concrete log.

Entrance:
A smoke cloud appears in the player spot, then he clearly runs in before the smoke cloud goes off.

Taunt: Wiggles headband.

Special attacks:
-Projectile: Launches a needle, kunai or shuriken depending the button used.
-LOG!: a counter move, when the opponent falls for it, the ninja becomes a log and then strikes opponent from the back.
-Log Smash: Swings the log, a slow move but penetrates defense and sends the opponent flying in the opposite direction.
-Air slash: if performed on the ground, it's a rising "shoryuken" styled rising move (using a kunai as knife), if performed in the air, it's a diving attack.

Super Moves:
-Mr. Log Special! : A close range special, sends mr. log flying, spinning upwards, if this hits the opponent, the ninja perform a small combo and then the log falls on the opponent dealing significant damage, if the initial attack doesn't hits, no combo is performed and the opponent only must watch the falling log.
-Rocket Needles: throws a shower of needles (similar to ice man's artic attack on marvel vs capcom 2), if performed in the air, the needles are thrown Down-forward.

Win poses:
Round victory 1: removes his headband and cleans sweat from his forehead.
Round victory 2: stands mr. log on the ground and sits atop of it.
Match victory: Throw a smoke bomb down, when the smoke cloud clear, we seem the ninja slowly walking away, after noticing the smoke cleared,he runs away embarrassed.

Quotes:
"Oh, these aren't my eyebrows, they're painted on the head band."
"I am the wind! im silent and ....well, you know, all that ninja crap."
"That should show you, never EVER make Mr. Log angry!"

Damn you, Doug. Now I have lost the surprise value. Damn you!!! >:{

Code: Select all
================================================================
Damian Smith
================================================================

Bases : Geese Howard (Fatal Fury), Rugal Bernstein (King of
Fighters), Rogue (X-Men Versus Street Fighter)
ATK 80% / DEF 90%

Dark Moment : D, Df, F + Punch <EX>
    - Damian gets into a stance and punches forwards, causing a
ball of darkness to appear a distance in front of him. LP
version appears right in front of him, and HP version appears
halfscreen away. Both negate other projectiles, and combo with
the inital punch if the opponent is hit by it. EX version
creates a larger ball in between where the other two appear that
hits 4 times instead of the normal 1.
DAMAGE : 50/50, 50/50, 65/15/15/15/15

Grasping Claw : F, D, Df + Punch
    - Steps forwards and slashes the opponent. Button controls
forwards movement. Can cancel into the Round Kick from here.
DAMAGE : 50/50, 40/60

    * Fool's Feint : Punch
        - A rush forwards that can possibly go behind opponents.

Shadow Skill : B, Db, D, Df, F + Kick
    - Damian steps forwards holding a pose. Light version gives
Damian high autoguard in the middle of this pose, but only for a
short period. If this autoguard is activated, the move becomes
cancellable into any command normal, special, or super. Heavy
version lasts longer but is an automatic high/mid counter move.

Round Kick : D, Db, B + Kick <EX> (Also In Air)
    - Jumps forwards with a double axe kick. Button controls
forwards range of the move. Has some startup invincibility, and
overheads on the second hit. Knocks down.
DAMAGE : 30/95, 30/95, 30/65/65

BLACK HOLE : D, Df, F + Punch (Also In Air)
    - Aura Mode Only. Replaces the Dark Moment. Damian takes one
of his two katana of darkness and hurls it forwards, where it
lingers for a moment before returning. Functionally similar to
the Dark Moment, but can be done in air and does a bit more
damage.
DAMAGE : 30/30/30/30/30, 30/30/30/30/30

BLACK WING : F, D, Df + Punch
    - Aura Mode Only. Replaces the Grasping Claw. LP version has
Damian slice forwards a short distance and then slice downwards.
Second hit overheads and knocks down. HP version has Damian pull
back for a moment, then slice upwards with both of his katana,
sending his opponent into the air. HP version has autoguard
before the swing.
DAMAGE : 40/115, 150

[DM] Dimension Slash : D, Df, F, D, Df, F + Punch
    - Damian creates a sword of pure darkness and slashes twice
in large arcs. Stops projectiles of all types, has some small
amount of invincibility at the start.
DAMAGE : 150/150

[DM] A False Life : B, F, Df, D, Db, B + Punch
    - Damian concentrates, creating a copy of himself that
sticks around for 12 seconds.

[SDM] A Dark Legend : D, Db, B, Db, D, Df, F + Both Kicks
    - Counterattack super. If hit, the screen goes dark, with
flashes of light going off just long enough for one to see each
hit of the super. No damage reduction applies to this super.
DAMAGE : 60/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/30/300

================================================================
Solis Darylshield
================================================================

Bases : Kyo Kusanagi (King of Fighters), Ryu (Street Fighter)

Rolling Thunder Alpha : F, D, Df + Light Punch
    - Steps a short distance forwards with a left elbow attack.
Stops fireballs and has a short moment of invincibility. High
priority.

    * Hard Edge : D, Df, F + Punch
        - Steps forwards with a heavy right straight punch that
knocks opponents away, and pushes back a bit even if
    blocked.

Rolling Thunder Beta : F, D, Df + Heavy Punch <EX>
    - Leans backwards a bit, then lunges forwards with a heavy
right uppercut to the face.  Has one hit of autoguard as she
moves forwards. EX version includes a hit from a 1/2-screen high
lightning bolt effect at the end, as well as unlimited autoguard
for most of her forward move.

    * Twice Striking : D, Df, F + Punch
        - Turns around, and points his left palm down at the
ground in front of him, causing a 1/2-screen high lightning
bolt to appear in front of him. Cancels projectiles, knocks
    opponents into the air.

Strife Axe : In Air, D, Db, B + Kick
    - Flips over in mid-air and does an axe kick. Knocks down.
Overheads. Has a decent amount of recovery on it if missed.
Button determines forwards movement.

Storm Surge : F, Df, D, Db, B + Punch <EX>
    - Pulls back for a second, then leaps forwards with a
hopping right punch. Slow on startup, but has decent speed.
Button determines the forwards distance of the hop. EX version
has much faster startup.

THUNDER : D, Df, F + Light Punch / D, Df, F + Hold Heavy Punch
    - Motions forwards with his right hand, causing a lightning
bolt to race across the screen. Light Punch version hits once
and comes out immediately, as well as having decent pushback and
slow recovery. Heavy Punch version hits 3 times, but does not
come out until released. It also has slow startup, but no
recovery, particularly not if held. Can move normally and do
normal attacks while holding, but cannot do special moves or
Desperations.

LIGHTNING : F, D, Df + Light Punch / F, D, Df + Hold Heavy Punch
    - Motions upwards with his right hand, causing a screen-high
lightning bolt to strike in front of him. Light punch version
hits once and comes out immediately, as well as having slow
recovery. Heavy punch version hits three times, can be held and
has no recovery, particularly not if held. Can move forwards and
back while holding, as well as do normal attacks, but cannot
jump, do special moves, or Desperations.

    * E.M. PULSE : D, Df, F + Punch Repeatedly
        - Turns and does a jumping right uppercut into the air,
then hangs there getting multiple hits from the resulting
electrical wing effect it has. Tap punch for more hits out
    of the wing effect.

    * Strife Axe : D, Db, B + Kick
        - Jumps a short distance into the air and does a normal
    Strife Axe.

[DM] Lightning Cross : D, Db, B, Db, F + Punch
    - [DM] version is A hard right-handed punch to the gut (Hard
Edge), a left-handed backfist, and a right-handed uppercut to
the jaw. [SDM] version starts with the hard right-handed punch,
left-handed backfist, 2 right-straight/left-straight
combinations, and a finishing right jumping uppercut into
aerial electrical hammer punch.

[DM] Great Lightning Storm :  D, Db, B, D, Db, B + Hold Punch
    - For the [DM] version, he pulls back a moment, then lashes
out with a Hard Edge (shortened range) that shoots a 4-hit cone
of lightning at the opponent. The [SDM] version has him
concentrate his energies into a large ball of energy, then toss
it in an upwards arc at the opponent. Gets 15 hits.

If anyone didn't know... yeah. I've had these hanging about since BEFORE I came here. Although Damian's has changed a little since then.

Also Also: Its not safe to ask me if I have more of these. I do indeed have more. >.>

Well, I may as well do this in the style of the guy that started this...

Sorune Yohlm

Sorune is a difficult character to use correctly-he's not too slow when simply moving, and his physical attacks, though weak, are above average in speed. But his magical moves are both complicated and slow to execute-even though some of them are quite powerful. All in all, not a character for the beginner.

Stage: Doma City, Doma Forest-Sorune's Home

Costumes: (normal) Brown tunic with a green cloak and pants, with a silver clasp of a tree holding the cloak on.
Same, but in black.
(unlockable) Same, but in bubblegum pink.
(unlockable) Removes the cloak.
(unlockable) Completely different version of Sorune-this one looks like a plant version of himself, green skin, vines for hair, and tree limbs for arms-in addition to his outfit being made entirely of leaves.

Entrance: Sorune rides on Sher's back, hopping off of the lion while he goes back the same way-he then looks at the opponent, sighing as he takes up a combat position.

Taunt: Sorune makes a pretty flower grow, sniffs it, and then leaves it.

Speech: "I can't allow you to harm life."
"By the power invested in me by the great gods of life, strength, and wisdom, I will defeat you!"
"Don't expect me to go easy on you!"
"There is no need for words. Prepare yourself for nature's wrath!"

Regular Attacks:
Hits:Would be performed with a staff, simply poking an opponent for a weak attack that is mostly intended to be used for a combo breaker. It also has a decent amount of reach.
Kicks:Would be just that.

Special attacks:
Stone Toss:The most basic spell, Sorune gathers a stone from the ground and hurls it in an arc at the opponent. Fairly quick to do, but low damage.
Wind's Wrath:Another basic spell, this causes a flash of white wind to appear directly in front of Sorune. If your opponent is in that flash, then they will be hit repeatedly by smaller slices until they are thrown from the 'vortex.'
Gaia's Wrath:A slower spell, this one summons two large blades of grass-one on each side of the opponent-to try and bind them for several seconds.
Stone Wall:Pretty much what it says, though this one requires a few seconds to charge. Once it's done, however, a pillar of stone rises from underneath the opponent quickly.

Super attacks:
Wrath of the World:Sorune's longest spell, this requires several steps. First, Sorune must connect with a staff strike, automatically knocking the opponent down and to the ground. When they're down, he chants, summoning two treants from the ground to pound the opponent-and when they are desummoned, he is lifted up to the sky and thrown to the opposite end of the stage, where a nice large rock is waiting for them to break their back on. If he misses that first strike though, Sorune is vulnerable as long as the spell goes on.
Pebble Storm:Sorune punches the ground, causing a rumbling to occur-and the entire screen behind Sorune is filled with 15-30 small stones that are hurled towards an opponent simultaneously. Not overly damaging, but very difficult to avoid, and can break through a shield.

Win stance: (1 round) Turns his back from the screen, heaving his shoulders up and down with a sigh-before snapping his fingers and causing a gust of wind to blow his cloak/clothes/leaves dramatically.
(Match) Rubs his stomach, wincing as if wounded-and coughs up a bit of blood.

Message on win:
"You were foolish to come here-were I less kind, you'd be dead."
"Nature is once again safe from outside influence-how long can I keep fighting, though?"

Boreas

Boreas is smaller than most fighters, very fast and very good in the air. However, his attacks don't hit hard, and many of his specials do almost no damage but are useful strategically. He has some air attacks similar to Dhalsim's Yoga Spear attacks, including one that goes straight across the screen at one height.

Stage: Metro City, USA - O'Herlihy's Pub

Costumes: (normal) Long white hair in a ponytail. White and light blue superhero costume with cape. Metallic quarterstaff, bow and quiver of arrows on his shoulder.
Same costume, but in black and a darker blue.
Same costume, but in light gray and red.
(unlockable) Short brown hair, black Streetlight Manifesto t-shirt (http://www.interpunk.com/item.cfm?Item=44939&), khaki cargo shorts, black flip flops. Same staff, slightly different bow. (Cameron "Cam" Meller, Boreas's secret identity)
(unlockable) Obviously naked except for his quiver and white wig, his shame concealed by strategic wisps of light blue mist.
(unlockable) A comically ill-fitting Superman costume.

Entrance: Boreas flies across the screen from his opponent's side to his own, and then falls from the top of the screen and brushes himself off.

Taunt: A true taunt. Sticks his hands on the sides of his head, wiggles his fingers, and blows a raspberry.

Speech: "I just got up from a nap, so if I'm slow at first, that's why."
"If you taste something weird in a sec, it's your blood."
"You're about to get something handed to you. I'll give you a hint: You sit on it."
"I got this on lock."

Special attacks:
Arrow'd: Shoots an arrow across the screen. Depending on the button pressed, it will either shoot straight forward or at different angles, making it effective against enemies in the air. Does medium damage.
Blast: Boreas shoots a puff of air across the screen. It doesn't do much damage at all, but it's easy to get off quickly, and is shaped well to cancel a large variety of other projectiles.
Tornado Spin: Boreas spins in place, hitting several times with his staff.
Updraft: Boreas shoots a blast of wind that can lift the opponent into the air. Does almost no damage.
Mist Walk: Similar to Dhalsim's Yoga Teleport, Boreas disappears in a puff of mist and reappears in another spot on the screen depending on which of several button combinations is used.

Super attacks:
Whirlwind: Boreas summons up a mighty whirlwind that hits an enemy several times.
Wrath of the Wind-Wielder: Boreas surges forward, flying off the ground. If he grabs his opponent, he spins him/her around, stunning him/her, then flies straight up, shooting several arrows straight down at his opponent.

Win stance: (1 round) Lets his "hair" out of the ponytail, then creates a breeze that billows out the cape and the wig dramatically, then sheepishly adjusts his wig on his head.
(match) Looks out at the player, crosses his arms, winks, and disappears into mist.

Message on win:
"You'd better knock on wood before you face me again."
"I know everything sucks, but you said this would be the last time I'd hear you complain."
"Would you do what it takes to move this hollow life along?"
"Tell you what, Leto, I won't fight with you. Zeus' wives are pretty tough customers. You have my permission to boast openly that you have beaten the daylights out of me."
-Hermes, the Iliad (Stanley Lombardo, translator) Book 21
