It occurs to me that over the past few weeks, I haven't been very active on this forum. I've been more active on Hidden Realms, The Gungan Council, Terrawin, and in the last few days I reached a new low.

I was on Gaia more than RPGWorldWorld. That was about when enough was enough.

Granted I'm being paid for this, but I recently had reason to post here again and thought about how nice it was to be back on more familiar turf again.

So guys, here's to you and here's to being home. Hopefully I'll think of more things to do to keep myself here like I should be.

As mentioned above, it comes from the Greek μηχανῆς, or mêchanê, meaning the same thing: "an instrument" or "a machine".

Hey, I was there for the session where they said "machina" = "box". Which, apparently, was the worthlessest of sessions.

Well they're right and wrong.

Machina does mean machine, but it would be more accurately translated as "human created contrivance that performs some sort of practical purpose" - a title which includes box. Same goes for the greek techne (from which we get techinical et al.) which just means some sort of human-devised-skill-or-talent. So machina could mean box, but it would be the 500th choice on a very big list of possible translations.

On the subject of classics and boxes, does anyone know what the original greek for "Pandora's Box" translates to, and why the inaccurate translation to "Box" is very appropriate? (Smo you can't answer this cause I told you a couple of days ago.) Any correct answers win a prize.

I do, but only because I just looked it up out of curiosity, so I won't reveal the answer. :D
