Castlevania - Getting too stale or just getting started?

As some of you may know, SotN is being ported to the PSP with Rondo of Blood that stars Richter and was never released in NA. While this isn't terribly bad idea, with it bringing a new game, to us, and a revamped version of one of the most popular in the series (Voice acting shall be changed from the grotesque horror that is was).

SO! Which is your favourite Castlevania game, and are you tired of all this porting of old games, regardless of if they were never released here?

Also, What is man?

Castlevania is awsome

I even enjoy the 3D entries into the series

Remakes, new games, tis all good.

Until they stop being fun of course. Until then! Keep 'em coming.

Miserable pile of secrets.

I've only played Dawn of Sorrow, and that was pretty sweet. Currently waiting for people to finally release SotN onto X-Box Live, which apparently will happen "soon" since it's already happened state side.

I hardly see how releasing a title that was never released over here could be considered 'stale'. Plus, with this release, Konami is simultaneously

1. Responding to fan requests for this title, which, most likely, they've gotten several of over time
2. Throwing a bone to the PSP, which has been starving for AAA titles (supposedly MGS:PO was good stuff... *cough*alsocamefromKonami*cough*)

I've only actually played the three Castlevanias on the NES and 'Super' Castlevania IV on the SNES. I liked the first one. It was hard but it was fun, and there was some good music going on there.

Also! Concerning the SotN port on the 360, remember that "It will be the first Xbox Live Arcade title to exceed the 50MB restriction placed upon Xbox Live Arcade games (The limit has since been increased to 150MB)". So make sure you have the 'good' 360 (the one with an honest to god hard drive, which will actually have space to hold SotN).

A miserable little pile of secrets!

I may have started with Symphony of the Night, but since then I have delved into the series' celebrated past and have found much to like there. I've been pretty ravenous for the portable Castlevanias that have been coming out in recent years, but I haven't explored the 3-D games yet. I'm always a bit wary when a classic 2-D series goes into the third dimension. But I watched Priam kick some ass in... whichever of the two PS2 Castlevania games stars the guy without a whip, and it seemed pretty aewsome. Not enough to actually go out and buy the game, but still.

It seems like Konami is a bit better at keeping their classic series feeling classic than Capcom is with Mega Man, but time will tell if they can keep that up.

Idran: I know it came out in 86. I own the game for NES. I was more referring to the current trend of their 2d metroidvania type games. The 3d explorers lately have more or less flopped in comparison to their 2d series for GBA/DS. Rereleasing games isn't so much a step forward for them, so much as it's keeping the status quo, though while Rondo of Blood never arrived stateside, its still a port. Those who played SotN already know the ending, since its the beginning of SotN.

The newest DS (Portrait of Ruin) was rather stale to me, though that could be from my not liking the characters. And the voice acting in it was rather superfluous.
