No, I didn't earn it that way.

Today I moved into my very first apartment! At 21, I felt it was time to venture out on my own and see if I am capable of surviving without my parents. I've moved into a three-story boarding house with six other college students. I get my own room, WIFI, cable, washer/dryer, etc. It's a very nice deal for only $300 a month (including utilities).

I know a lot of you RPGWWers are already living alone, but this is a big, new step for me. I just hope I don't blow it.

I think Shini, Neb, and I do something like $220 per month per person, all said. But that is largely because the owners of this condo are related to me, and as such we get it at cost. *thumbsup!*

But anyway, congratulations on your new housing arrangements! You have a lot to look forward to, and the experience will inevitably change your outlook on a great many things. Here's to your futuar!

Well here's hoping you do better then my Uncle who got himself evited from his own house and thrown into safe house for a couple of months because he kept spending his money on crap and kept ignoring any and all bill being posted through his door. Even the ones marked Warning.

Good luck dude, and kudos on the rent rate! I got a similar deal going on (my share of the rent is 240 and my share of utilities comes to about 50) and even in my crappy low-income town that's a bloody good deal.

Some advice:

Tidy. If you don't tidy often or regularly the mess will build up and up and up. This is especially true for dirty dishes.

Buy lots of toilet paper in advance. LOTS. Restock often. Running out of toilet paper is one of the worst things in the world.

The 3 tools everyone needs: hammer, screwdriver, flashlight. Own them. Store them somewhere you can find in a power outage.

Plants go a long way to brightening up a room, much more so than pictures.

Gus is right. The point, I've found, about tidying isn't that it builds up--because anything does that--but that if you let dirty things sit, then pests come in. And that shit *sucks* to have to deal with.

Dude, that's pretty awesome--both moving out and the deal you're getting on rent. You're right, this is a pretty big step, and I agree with Priam about changing outlooks and whatnot. Good luck and enjoy your moving-out-ness!

300 bucks a month is a sweet deal. As of yet, I'm still living with my parents, but this gives me hope that I can actually find somewhere to live after I leave, and god do I want to leave.

When I was little (less than 2 years old) I moved houses. My new place was right next to a train station. According to my mother the trains stopped bothering all of us after about a week. You'll get used to the noise of cars.

When I first moved out, I had to get used to the sound of the train running at night. Fortunately, it's about half a mile to a mile away, and I'm pretty sure it sounds the horn further away than that--it doesn't actually cross any roads at the spot where it came near my living spot. Still loud enough to hear and needing adjustment to, though.

I used to live within a stone's throw (even if it were a little girl throwing the stone, really) of train tracks myself, for the B&O. Can't say it really bothered me sleepwise, though, considering I was in the basement level of the duplex and there were no windows. I was quite well insulated from everything =D
