Starcraft

Unread postby Besyanteo » Tue Jan 16, 2007 8:12 pm

Wasn't sure whether this should go in Discussion or Spam, so I pick spam!

Does anyone here
1.) Own a copy of Starcraft + Broodwar Expansion
2.) Have the ability to connect to Battlet net (not everyone does)
and
3.) Enjoy playying?

I find I feel like playying, and I'd prefer to play with people I know. Anyone up for it?

1. If I can find it.
2. Yeah.
3. Sure! Why not.

I can suck at Starcraft. Does that count?

Well... I think I'm pretty good at it. I'll just never be as good as the fearsome Eight Year Old Korean Girl.

I have met my match... and she is cute and adorable. :(

Also: Brian beat me in somehting like 4 minutes. No one else gets to claim to suck after that. Not unles I beat them anyway.

Hay wait, I meet the specified conditions too. Sometimes I can even beat the computer on a non-campaign map.

Hey, it took me longer than that. More like 15, which actually makes sense. Four minutes would just be sick. o_O

Edit: This means we need an RPGWW team game, or perhaps a free-for-all.

1. Yes
2. Yes.
3. God, I haven't played in so long I stink like the month old crud. Then again I wasn't much good to begin with. I'm probably in the same boat as Seethe.

Glu: I'll look into that!

Edit: If you use a standard phone line modem, you and one other person who also has such a modem can play together. Maximum of two people.

2-8 people can play on a local area network (as in, if you have a bunch of people and a bunch of computers in one building...)

Otherwise, looks like no.

No is indeed the correct answer. Seeing as how I don't want to use a modem to connect to someone else who would be in a long distance area...and doubt anyone else does...it's Bnet or bust.

Jak: I am so very looking into this.
Edit:

The Good: They've tested Starcraft on it, or so they say on their forums. The free version of this will host twice the number of people we're thinking of, so we're cool there. Furthermore, people without a client program can access this network with an account, or something like that. So if you computer won't ruin it, that's not a problem.

The Bad: 2.5 Megs of traffick per account per activation (It can be reset and the limit starts over)... I don't know if that will work for us or not. I suppose we'd have to try it and find out.

I am willing to host this, but would appreciate if someone else stood up to the plate.

My WoW buddies and I played alot of WC3 over it and rarely had any problems. Starcraft should, theoretically, run about the same over it.

Why is bnet insufficient?

...don't tell me I'm the only human being on earth who legally owns a copy, and still has the CDs.

That might be the case :p

Also, everyone needs a real copy to play on Bnet.

I dunno how to play but I might have an install CD minus BNet code laying around.

If someone could hook me up I'd be willing to play.

I not only have a code, I also have an original from-the-box CD. Like, printed by Blizzard and everything. You never see those anymore.

I have a burned copy cause I lost my CD and the CD case with the key on it. I still have the box and manual though!

Whenever I install it I hit random numbers for the CD key until it works.

dude, writing "1234567890" over and over until you fill the key spaces works.

It works, but not for bnet play.

Also, you only need a CD key for Starcraft. You do not need one for BW, so if you have a legit Starcraft key, you can download a BW iso and burn a copy.

Hah, my copy of Starcraft and the expansion were obtained from Spleen. I did originally have a legitimate copy, but they seem to have been lost to the sands of time. At the same time, they sell the game, the expansion, strategy guides for both and a whole bunch of random other paraphenalia that never really interested me for a whopping 10 bucks, there abouts. Maybe 15.

Also, if you could play WoW over Hamachi, I can't see why not Starcraft. I would think that Starcraft is a lot less demanding, since it's almost ten years old. Shouldn't be too strenuous.

WC3, now WOW, but yeah, that's my thought.

If anyone's interesting in testing it over Hamachi, I'll help; incidentally, I probably don't have enough space on my own Hamachi network for all of you jerks, so we'd have to start a new one.

Sorry, that's what I meant. Either way, if you can find a hardy enough network, it should work...

Emphasis on should...

So one of two things is the case:

1) My router is weird and allowing all forms of traffic except Starcraft
2) You can't play Starcraft over hamachi for some reason

Mech: Hamachi was suggested because things made it look like Glu couldn't use BNet. Read every post, please. :(

Brian: They tested Starcraft on it and said it worked on their forums. Odd.

Spleen AND Brian: I can't host now, until my computer works again. I can't even play till my computer works again. :( Bes won't be hosting a network anytime real soon here.

Unsurprising. However, I do not actually have access to the router myself because it's an Apple Airport and my roommate is the one managing it; I'm not just going to disable any firewall on it arbitrarily, so I'm either going to have to figure out something else or play with settings.

Edit: Or I could have forgotten to set a firewall exception for Starcraft. Oops.

oh, well, i assumed it was implied, i mean, i thought everyone knew people without an original cd key can't conect to bnet.
and my second post kinda implies that i don't have one.
sorry for that.

Glu is right on all these counts! About Bnet and such that is. ... Now then! Hamachi sems to work for us and Starcraft, and even runs quickly. Glu should download it and bug spleen (Deus Fio) for access informations to his server.

I think he's actually going to have to set up a new one, or at least, someone is, because of a user capacity limit or something.

I'll see what I can do! if Kristen will stop turning it off, I can run a server from her room.

edit: It occurs to me that I don't know the AIM names for several of you folks. Largely the ones who don't have their AIM screen names listed in their profile. :(

The Hamachi network - unlike, say, the Teamspeak server - is extant with or without me. I just chose the name because I'm a narcissist. Once someone chooses the name and password, they have no more power over the network than anyone else who uses it. Nor are they in any capacity a host or server; the network is between all our computers equally.
