Inform me of DS games!

Unread postby FlamingDeth » Thu Oct 26, 2006 12:50 pm

A friend of mine recently upgraded to a Nintendo DS Lite, which gave me an opportunity to purchase her old DS for the low, low price of $30 and a small loaf of gingerbread. However, I know very little about DS games. Tell me which ones are good!

ps: Not Rocket Slime, I already know I'll be getting Rocket Slime.

Radio message from HQ:

Brain Age
Kirby: Canvas Curse
Lunar Dragon Song
Mario Hoops
Meteos
Metroid Pinball
Nintendogs
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team
Starfox Command
New Super Mario Bros
Super Princess Peach
Zookeeper

These are the games we own. I don't play all of them (Mario Hoops, Metroid, Nintendogs, Starfox), and Lunar is on hold so I can't give too much of an opinion on that.

Meteos is a better puzzle game than Zookeeper, and Mike commented that Zookeeper bored him; I like it, it's cute. Meteos definitely has more to it, though. Super Princess Peach doesn't have much replay value, but it was still a lot of fun. New Super Mario Bros is groovy, as is Kirby.

The stylus is necessary in Zookeeper, Metoes, and Kirby; so, whatever you think of that. The use is very minimal in the Mario games, and you can get away with using the thumb stylus, easily (if you inherited that with the DS), or your fingernail.

I've gotten a lot of hours from Brain Age. However, it was one of the first of its kind, and better games of its type have come out since. The next game in the series is coming out on the PSP, though I think the game benefits from the speed granted from stylus use.

Lunar Dragon Song got put on hold after we got...Brain Age, actually, I think. I hear lots of people complain about it, but I was enjoying it at the time. Still, I was able to put it down several months ago and not yet pick it back up again.

The pokemon game is the first I've played since the first releases on the gameboy some 8 years ago, or whatever. I beat the game maybe 30 hours in or whatever, but 50 hours later I'm still playing. It's addictive.

Also, I want Phoenix Wright. :(

dictionary.com | encyclopædia dramatica

Sonic Rush
If you like the basic gameplay of Sonic and can deal with overly aggravating Sonic Advance-style obstacle courses (y helo thar proliferating bottomless pits and ill-placed spikes!).

Animal Crossing: Wild World
It's like Animal Crossing, only with extra stuff. If, by some chance, you've already played the hell out of AC on the GC, then pass like a rhinestoned cowboy.

I can tell you nothing else.

I've only really played Truma Centre to any amount and I loved every second of it....

... Of course half of my playing it was doing dramatic poses and shouting out the guys speeches and going "Time for the HAND OF GOD!"

Lots and lots of fun!

Phoenix Wright.

Seriously, that game seems to be horrendously popular.

Also, I got bored with New SMB. It wasn't too compelling to replay, though the minigames were awesome... Similar to Mario 3, but not difficult in almost any sense of the word... That or I just rock at Mario games. Whichever.

Kirby is pretty sweet, but I couldn't deal with the stylus extra things. Silly take on the game style, for Kirby fans.

Starfox Command actually seemed to be terribly awesome, and I only played the multiplayer. Actually speaking of that, the games that have multiplayer are actually worth looking into, if you have friends with the games... otherwise, playing most people who you don't know online seems to not be fun... Like it's playing a computer whos AI is set to asshole. I wouldn't mind playing friends in Metroid Prime Hunters, but there is no way in hell I'm playing it normally anymore.

If M&L: Superstar Saga was any indication, Partners in Time should be awesome. I have no facts to verify this. Anyone back up my claim?

I can, and will! Though I haven't played all the way through the first M&L game yet, I'm stuck in it... The item system rocks in Partners in Time though the plot is far inferior to the first game.

Also, Children of Mana. Multiplayer RPG, Zelda like in play, and horribly awesome. It just came out and I shall retrieve my copy over the weekend.

Seriously, if anyone is a fan of the Mana series, the game is a god send, particularly to those who loved Secret of Mana with the SNES multitap to play all three characters.

Advanced Wars. If you dig the whole turn based strategy thing.

And Phoenix Wright is seconded!

I plan on borrowing Phoenix Wright from my brother, as I hear it has limited replay value. :(

Also: Holy crap even used copies of Rocket Slime are expensive.

Radio message from HQ:

Wait a couple months for the new releases to lose initial resell value. I'd say around February things will get a little price drop. That or go to an actual video game type pawn shop store, and not a name brand corporation like EB or Gamespot. They tend to rip you off.
