Co-op

Unread postby PriamNevhausten » Sat Sep 16, 2006 11:19 pm

So, a recent endeavor with BW has brought to attention a rather unfortunate possibility, which is that current game console paraphernalia are decidedly lacking in two-player cooperative possibilities. I'm not talking about Onimusha 4 type stuff, where the second player is gimped with a lot less utility, but full-on, metal-sluggin' bubble-bobblin' River-city-ransomin' equal participation 2p action.

Yes, I know Metal Slug 4 and 5 came out for the PS2 in America, but that's just one. I am taking suggestions in this oversized, gaily-colored box! Please fill it! OR ELSE. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. I agree with your sentiments. I hope they fix this with the Wii; if there are a lot of games like Castle Crashers, we won't be disappointed. Hell, Castle Crashers alone will go a long way toward fixing it, if it's as fun as it looks in that video someone linked. <p>-_-___-___-___-_-

I'm a fan of old-fashioned space shooters of all types, and every Darius Twin game (as far as I know) features 2P co-operative as a game mode. You can shoot metal fish together! <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">Image

True that, shooters are damn fine 2p experiences.

Also, why in the name of fuck is Midway smart enough to make MK: Shaolin Monks fully co-op 2p, but Capcom isn't smart enough to make ANY of their Devil May Cry games so? Including the upcoming DMC4. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. I rather like the co-op stuff in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. <p><hr />Radio message from HQ:

Yeah, Halo 2 has co-op for what that might be worth to you. Also, if PC games are an option (I'm assuming you're referring to consoles, though), Sven Coop is a great Half-life mod that lets you play cooperative missions or even the main HL storyline. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">Image

Obscure, though the overall game is fairly mediocre. Still somewhat fun to run through and bash the enemies with baseball bats together.

DBZ: Sagas, though it more or less sucks. It also artificially increases the difficulty level of the enemies to make the two-player game harder.

There is also the somewhat obscure Adventures of Cookie & Cream.

That's about all that comes to my mind as far as co-op goes on the PS2.

Everything else that is good for coop in my mind is on the Genesis, so never you mind that.

Altered Beast and Streets of Rage were the pinnacles of console gaming co-op in my opinion.

Golden Axe II was simply badass in co-op. <p>-----

In Double Dragon 2, in one of the game modes you could kick your mate's ass while playing the game! And it gave you points for it.

It made it really hard to actually beat the game. Or want to beat the game. <p><hr />Radio message from HQ:

Yeah, but there's something extra sweet about working together through all the previous levels, fighting hordes and hordes of gang members to even beating a guy with a machine gun...

... To killing each (With ya FISTS!) over some poor bondage victim.

Final Fight was almost as funny as when Guy kicked Cody's ass to make him stop for the girl. <p><div style="text-align:center"> </div>
