Old Games that should be remade

Unread postby Choark » Mon Jul 31, 2006 3:21 pm

Do you have any really old games that you think could be awsome if they were remade in this day and age? I know I have a few, so I shall share my first one:

Image
Werewolves of London

This was the first game I ever played with a night and day cycle. By day you were a weak little man, wondering the streets of London looking for the people who placed the curse upon you, by night you turned into a hungry powerful werewolf, hunted by policemen, but could jump and claw your way through the streets, rooftops and subway.

Image

It was also one of the first games to have a bleeding system. If you were shot you could slowly bleed to death if you didn't keep your energy topped as you naturally healed (which is accerated thanks to ya wolfy power). To get energy? Eat the people of london of course. You could eat an entire human easily, but half the fun was leaving a mangled corpse of a child laying in the streets.

Image

Of course the Police don't take kindly to all this and should they catch you they throw you in jail. Come morning however and they find the monster they had is gone and an innocent man is in the cell... so... Best let him out, eh?

Image

Thats the old game. If remade I think it could be really good, espically if they added some cool extra features:

In day light make the mans actions more prominate: Have him do actual investigations around london to find the people who cursed him, talking to people, searching houses and so on. Kinda Shenmue type stuff. did you see a black car... on THAT day.. with the snow?

Maybe have heightened senses as well. Not just investigating like a human but follow your nose, following sents of people or certain perfumes around london that may lead to hidden areas. Taste could someone play into it all as well.

As a werewolf at night, his fighting and eating need to be improved, have some good stalking and instant kill moves if sticking to the shadows but give him some really powerful strikes and combos too.

Cops should probably get increasenly harder and in bigger numbers, using search lights, helecopters and whatnot as the bodycount rises. They start putting up silver barriers and using silver bullets as time goes on too and protecting the people under the curse if they are attacked but manage to escape.

Have it so certain people or cops may suspect you to be the monster/werewolf. Before they tell people and make you hunted as a man as well, track them down and silence them!

Yeah, I really think this would be a kick ass game if remade today! Do any of you have any ideas for old games that should be remade?

Don't forget about the ability to curse other people with lycanthropy, too.
-----

I think some of the older FIFA games should be remade.

Realms of the Haunting, so that it can actually be played reliably well on a non-DOS computer.

I know next to nothing of these two games mentioned. I thank End for providing a review link but I frown at Kingy for thinking everyone else played a game he has! )={ This is why I gave information and gameplay ideas and cool new additions and screenshots!

Here! For other peoples!

I was actually surprised once I found this I remembered the game I had played, which I got free with a cruddy joystick, though I had no idea it was a series of any sort.

I second this. Remake Commander Keen today or the Vorticons will win.
-----

I'm sure that remaking a text adventure would go swell :(

Aren't numerous sequels enough for you, Sage? You're addicted!

Zork has been remade, released, and sequel'd across a number of platforms.

I'd argue that Zork has had quite enough exposure.

Being done, last I heard. Not by Lucasarts, though, by the guys that did that recent Bone game. (Assuming you want a sequel rather than a remake given that comment, since the cancelled game was the former.)

Magic Carpet II. The graphics can definitely be updated (the original is a decade old, after all), but I don't care about that. You should be able to make alliances with other wizards, possibly against Rahn because he's always stealing my fucking mana spheres. And they should un-suck the multiplayer. And they should have a button that lets you do a fast 180, because otherwise you get owned by bees and fireflies until you have at least Fireball 2 (Rapid Fire). Also, you should be able to shoot down, to protect yourself from those fucking sea monsters. And the levels with undead should be less unfair.
-_-___-___-___-_-

BLOODY HELL!

I spent ages responding to bloody everyone in this thread and suddenly the bloody thing is closed because of some random error in another web browser! FUCK!

AARRGH!

DAMNIT! Quick five minute version instead of nice half an hour wasted! version!

Also damn you all except Dia, who at least gave us a single screen shot so we sort of knew what she was talking about. though the sex vixens I got is a Text adventure for the C64.

Dia: Text adventre remake eh? Sounds like a good solid 3D adventure with Dead or alive type graphics for vixen fun. Then we could release a spin off with all the girls aking part in black hole basket ball and space races, when not down the local space bar. Instant classic.

Maltese: Moonstone would be awsome as a remake. Espically if they buff up both the adventure and fighting parts of it. You take on dragons as a knight! Maybe with some God of War style fight? Or perhaps Devil May Cry but with no guns? Or some sort of mix? It be pretty damn cool anyway.

Glu-Glu:
Look under M in here for a remake of Manic Mansion. Its graphics are improved from my c64 version at least. As for Day of the tenticle, they couldn't really do much for it except have it in a higher resolution with sharper graphics and suchlike really, unless you want them to add puzzles and make it longer. I don't want to see it in 3D however. Never, ever.

AM: Theres a PS2 version of the game out as well, though I've never seen nor played this series so I don't know how different it is but it seems fairly popular.

Zork: But how would you remake it? A fully explorable world? A point and click adventure? Sharper text? What!? come on man! How would you want this remake to go down!?

SS: Altered Beast was remade recently for the PS2 and released in Japan and Europe. Unforantly its less about Greek Gods and more about gene splicing and suchlike. It sort of faithful to the game as not really being all that good but still enjoyable to those who actually enjoy it, kinda thing.

As for the others: Again I cn't see howor why they'd remake them as they're perfectly fine the way they are, unless you just want better animation with sharper graphics a a higher resolution or something... which admittidly that would be really nice to have. No 3D ={ I don't like it. That 3D look didn't work for me for Monkey Island and I'm not oerly fond of the models I've seen for Sam and Max either.

Spleen: This is actually a kick ass idea. I'd love to see what they could do with this now. I mean, come on, taking on a dragon on a flying carpet could be awsome with the stuff they can do with PC shooters these days. Being able to remould the world around you using magic would be totally brilliant too. Yeah, it would be cool to se this redone.

Personally I'd also like to see a remake of
H E R O
Having to explore cave in area's, clearing rubble, using explosives but having to be careful of cave in's, it could bereally awsome if they remde it with a bit of effort. also if they base it off some of the real cave's in this world you could have some of the most beautiful looking area's thats ever been in a game, but still be forbodnig and clastrophoic.

Could add a lighting system, and battered for your torch. Taking off your helecopter type gear and having to go through the icey cold waters to get to the trapped victims. Maybe actually having to drag, heal and carry to safety these people as well would add to it. so its not just planning and looking after your fuel to get there, but back as well. A climbing system like that in Shadow of the Collousus might work well for cave areas where using your helecopter is impossible and could add to all the fun.

Yep!

=o I have been educated! I never knew there were Zork remakes. I shall have to hunt them up soon.

However, other games that should be remade-or at least sent to the US-include Wonder Project J, Dark Half, and Just Breed.

Well, two things.

1)They could actually release it in the US, dammit. I want to shell out my money to pay my respects to the people that made it.

2)They could release it on the DS, and have it like Nintendogs-you teach him to do stuff depending on what you say. And I'm sure they could think up more crazy stuff for him to do, besides eat a circus ball as big as he is. (And waste $30000 in the process.)

Image

Some people were remaking the original Dark Forces as a Jedi Academy. Last time I checked they had 3 levels done! Had the old sounds and music, too!

Yes there were sequals to Dark Forces, but they were not the same game. Too concentrated on force powers, not enough FPS blasting of Storm Troopers.
