I love Jesus.

I HATE THAT GAME.

Dear god... may it be relegated to the bottom of the bargain bin upon release.

Or, better yet, may EB and its ilk never stoop to selling it.

What the heck? You guys have obviously been living under a rock for the past few years. The game is based off of a popular series of books that takes a realistic look at what would happen if the book of Revelations started coming true. "Left Behind" refers to the remaining people who were not "chosen" to ascend to heaven.

I think the game is an interesting concept played out rather well using a setting that's been popular in mainstream fiction for a long time. What's so offensive about this game anyway? It's not the killing, we have much better and gorier games than that. Quit with the "HURF DURF DURRH" kneejerk responses already.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm totally with Jak on this one, in the amusing front anyway, though the game kinda looks like a boring point, click kinda game so.. yeah.
Still the actual concept sounds interesting, judgement day has been and gone and there are only those left behind on Earth.... thats a pretty damn groovy and interesting plot line and could be real good if done well.
Ah yes, I linked this in my journal! I remember having a discussion about it on someone else's journal. Regardless.
No, I didn't know about the Left Behind series. I'm sure several people have as well or do and just do not care to recognize it because I do not engage in religious activities.
The game itself has actually been in production for over a year. Actual reviews of it on gaming sites make no mention of being able to single out Jews etc. and blowing them away. It also mentions that you get penalized for killing people instead of converting them.
Jack Thompson's appalled state of the game isn't surprising. I'm actually glad he took this stance because it'd make him look awfully bad if he opposed things like GTA, which have violence, but not this RTS, which, well, also has violence and the potential to "train" young children to think that it's OK to shoot people that don't follow your religion in the face.
My reason for disliking the whole thing is I am one of many people who do not like being told that I'm going to hell because I don't accept Jesus. Therefore, I am not happy seeing a game that encourages this sort of attitude.
The concept is somewhere between amusing and 'wrf'.
However, given this thing's troubled development life, I predict Duke Nukem Forever will come out before this one does.
Curtis: Dannyboy, look at you. You've changed considerably, into a badass, if I may.
Dan: Yeah, you've changed a lot too, into an old man! I went to see the devil, now it's your turn!
Curtis: Oh, my pupil, so tenacious of life, guess I have to kill you again.
Dan: Shut up, before you run out of breath!
Curtis: I got rid of those smiles, there's no one left to disturb our game. Just you, and me.
Dan: Sounds fair, 'cuz I hate holding back, even for an old fart like yourself.
Curtis: Talk all you want, I won't need six bullets for you.
Dan: Or four for you.
Something amusing that occured to me.
Some of the people posting comments there justified the game by saying that it was based on events 'after Rapture.'
Which makes me wonder why the game can still center on an army of fanatical Christians, if they're so confident they'll be the ones who get to go to heaven when everyone else goes crazy and starts killing one another.
This implies one of two things:
1. He's saying that the Rapture won't happen, or
2. That it won't include the extremist Christians who star in the game.
Of even more interest is the fact that converting/killing "moderate" Christians in the game is rewarded more than doing the same with a more neutral NPC. In which case, I expect them to be much more difficult to find.
However, moderate Christians don't seem to be a rare thing in the real world.
So maybe only the moderate ones got 'saved,' leaving the fanatical lunatics to get themselves killed?
ZOMG IRONY.
JEW-BOT 9000 REPORTING FOR ASS-KICKING DUTY! SHALOM, MUTHAFUCKERS!! *opens fire*
Seriously though, the scariest parts of this article show up after it stops talking about the game and starts talking about Mr.Warren's "ministry." That's some crazy shit right there.
Then again, I have a hard time respecting this article because it says things like this:
Quote:
This game immerses children in present-day New York City -- 500 square blocks, stretching from Wall Street to Chinatown, Greenwich Village, the United Nations headquarters, and Harlem. The game rewards children for how effectively they role play the killing of those who resist becoming a born again Christian.
This is a ridiculous statement given that the game is likely to be rated T, a fact that is supported by a quote from a member of the team behind the game mentioning a hope that it appeals to teenagers. Hell, the article itself mentions that it is likely to recieve a T rating, so why all this emotionally charged blather about children shooting people in the name of God? If the game is aimed at teenagers and even marked as such, can you really be angry at the developers if children are playing it? That sounds more like a problem with the parents to me. Then again, a lot of teenagers aren't mature enogh to no longer be considered children, so *shrug*
Also, I hate mega-churches.
Image
