Just so you HAVE to believe it.
There just might be no shame in buying the lower-grade version. Take THAT, XB360!
... although if the memory isn't upgradeable, I'll be annoyed.
In a related story,
Controller! The actual console looks exactly the same (and yes, they kept the Spider-Man font.)
Enjoy the info. <p><hr />

SEE SONY'S LIES!
I'm trying to find XBox Vs PS3 stats and graphs as well, for they show how vastly superior XBox 360 is to PS3 which should obviously burn in hell cause its crap. Sony's evil reign is finally ending and all.

Personally, I still think the Playstation controllers are the best designed controllers I've ever used. So *shrug* I won't cry over it not looking completely different =[

The SNES was my favourite controller, though I'm looking forward to giving that remote controller of the Wii a try.
At any rate, I saw an article in the newspaper about this--apparently it's important enough to warrant front-page of the business section. My response was along the lines of "Holy fucking shit!" That's a crazy amount of money..I don't think I'm willing to pay that much money on something that only plays games.
I wonder what a used PS3 will sell for, and how it will compare to the various prices of the XBox360 and Wii. In the end, I guess I'll just be happy if the price of secondhand PS2s drop to something reasonable. And by reasonable, I mean, something I'm willing to pay.

Spleen's world is a crazy place.
Also, I'm glad to hear this news. Now the probability of me getting a PS3 has gone down to almost match the probability of me getting an Xbox 360! But to be fair, the latter is measured in negative percentages.
And I've never understood why anyone loves the PSX/PS2 controller. It's so...
normal. There's so little special about it that it seems odd to pay it any more affection than you would for any other controller.
It's hard to choose a favorite controller, 'cause different controllers have been better for different things. I really like the GameCube controller, but it's not the best for everything. Same with the Dreamcast controller. Ironically, I think my favorite controller was probably the Genesis controller, even though I never actually owned a Genesis. Not for very long, anyway. <p><div style="text-align:center">

I really like the 'Cube controller, too. But it's not good worth a shit for fighters. For that, either use a PS2 stick or a true arcade stick. Seriously. And PS2 only because its buttons are pretty wide and easy to reach simultaneously; the d-pad being set into the controller is also good. But God forbid they put some design work into the shoulder buttons and make them easy to hit while having a thumb on the face buttons without feeling like your hand will explode after five minutes. I've actually seen third party controllers that take this in the right direction--R1 and L1 are shoulder buttons, but L2 and R2 are triggers. Much better.
Also, let's not even try to talk about Sony's reign of whatever being over. Come on, guys. Xbox had vastly, VASTLY superior technological capability and programmatorial facility to the PS2, and yet we see what happened there. That shit doesn't matter, guys. Dreamcast, anyone? Dreamcast was an AWESOME system. And it got flushed, big time. Why? Everyone was waiting on Sony's release. Everyone was hyped for the PS2. The companies that Sony had leverage on would not develop for the DC. Sony's third party support is their single biggest asset, in the console domain. And they still have it.
Price? Pah. People only have to pay the price of the console once. That gets easily forgotten. When all the games you want are on the PS#, even if some of them are also on other consoles, you will probably buy the PS# because it's one system for all your stuff. You remember a big selling point of the PS2? It plays DVDs, without an extra peripheral or tweak. It's the convenience of the system and the incredibly huge wideness of game selection that makes the Playstation series so dominant. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Now personally, I don't particularly want the PS to fail--competition is healthy, and fanboy debates are terrific. Of course, I don't really know enough about the consoles to be worried one way or another. It's just that I don't think I could justify spending $500/$600 on a PS3 when I could get, let's hypothesize, a $250 Wii plus a mixture of $250/$350 new or used games.
At any rate, that aforementioned newspaper article mentioned something about Sony's Blu-Ray and what did sound like some massive royalties; what's this now? <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">

Well, the PS3 isn't going to fail because no matter how little Sony knows about how to actually build, design, or price anything, they do seem to know how to market them, and how to leverage 3rd party support. The name "Playstation" will likely be around for a long time, unless Sony decides to drop the ball several times in a row or something.
<blockquote>

</blockquote>Not necessarily. If Sony's previous console launches are any indication, it's possible that the PS3 launch will be riddled with "technical difficulties" that could force some poor/ignorant bastards to pay that price again. But that's just me being overly negative. <blockquote>

</blockquote>Yep, that's why I bought a PS2. But the PS2 didn't cost me $500. I don't care how awesome the games are, why in God's name would I pay half a grand to play video games when I already own video games? If I'm going to pay that much for something, it's gonna have to be so mething I'm
really psyched about. The PS3 will likely do well by appealing to the common man, if perhaps not the common man's wallet, but personally, I would rather buy a Wii and play some
original games, than pay twice as much to play prettier versions of the same games I've been playing for years. <p><div style="text-align:center">

To be quite honest? At that price I won't be buying a PS3 for at least a year , minimum. $500? What? Am I Bill Gates now? Priced right out of my pocket for the duration. In the end, its just a matter of simple money. I could get a PC that didn't suck for that much cash, and considering some old friends... that would probably end any console debates I'd have for a LONG time. No no. The Wii and the XBox are looking better now.
Honestly? I'm seriously considering the XBox 360 as my next console purchase for the next year and then some. Or maybe the Wii, since it can play GC games. I'm still convinced that Nintendo's new Wii controler is a kinda stupid gimmick, but at least I'll be able to catch up on all the GC stuff that I've wanted and missed. <p><span style="font-size:small;"><hr />

Are we
really so unsatisfied by the capabilities of the XBox/Gamecube/PS2 that we need to shell out this much cash for a new system? I've had a Gamecube and XBox for years, and I'm still impressed, even with the knowledge of what is possible. If anything, I'm considiering buying a Playstation

Personally? I'm actually interested in the PS3. Call me crazy, but I'm actually anticipating a number of the games that I'm already sold on the prospects of DMC4 and AC4. Okay, sure. It's expensive, Microsoft has so much money that they'll outprocess anything Sony puts out. and there's nothing quite so new like with what Nintendo's been fucking with.
But you know what? I don't care. I don't exactly hate any of the systems, though I admittedly find myself uncomfortable with the Gamecube's controller. I just like more of what Sony has to offer as far as games go, is all.
On the discussion of controllers; as I said before, the GC's feels awkward and confusing to me. X-Box's seems halfway decent--though I DO commend them for putting the control sticks in such a way that they're halfway usable--I love the PS2 controller, especially for fighters, but a lot of the games with optional analog (Fighters in general, AC series,) well, you're just better off without the analog. <p>"DO YOU THINK YOU CAN DEFEAT US? I'm considering PS3 simply because:
- Backwards compatibility with PS1&2, as well as the ability to save games from all three formats onto one memory card
- Sequels I'm actually interested in
- The box looks shiny
I'll obviously wait until the price drops low and there are actually good titles released on the system, though. No need to rush into a purchase at launch.
Also, the only controller I really dislike is the N64's. I've never been able to comfortably place my hands around that thing and manage both the analog and the buttons at the same time very well. <p><hr />

Dude, there are tons of lizards here in Florida. People are always staring at me, because I walk around, staring at the ground. I mean--THERE'S FRIKKIN' LIZARDS. Tiny brown lizards with strips from tail to head, and a strip under the jaw, and larger black and also brown kinda mottled lizards with a red flap of skin that flares out. They're totally cool.
But yeah, you can catch yourself 500 lizards. Make a minigame out of it or something. Then sell them for $1 a piece (I hear there may be a market for them amongst the teen-twenty-something RPing crowd) and go buy yourself a PS3. <p><hr />to make the pain go away
