We Must KUNG FU FIGHT.
I know lately that Family Guy is considered to be losing its spark, but when they come out with a Flash game like this, I want to keep watching it. The game's supposed to be included in the new DVD releases for both series.
Play as eight timeless characters from both series! The game's not that hard to win, but I liked punching a baby. Also, the boss fight is Fantastic. <p><div style="text-align:center">

The best thing about Nick's post is the juxtaposition of his avatar and his postrank. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. The best thing about End's post is that it isn't in this thread.
Also, they're the same show. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">

No, they're totally different with totally different characters and plot-formulas!

Yeah, there really isn't much similarity between the two outside the fact that the family structure is pretty close. And even then, the characters you would naturally associate with each other don't really resemble each other in personality at all except for maybe Lois and Francine.
Plus, you know, American Dad remembers to include jokes. <p><hr />

I'm afraid I'll be disappointing someone by posting in this topic, but...
Seth <s>Green</s>MacFarlane himself had stated that they're essentially the same show. Straight from the horse's mouth, so there's no real disputing it. <p><hr />

Dan: Yeah, you've changed a lot too, into an old man! I went to see the devil, now it's your turn!
Curtis: Oh, my pupil, so tenacious of life, guess I have to kill you again.
Dan: Shut up, before you run out of breath!
Curtis: I got rid of those smiles, there's no one left to disturb our game. Just you, and me.
Dan: Sounds fair, 'cuz I hate holding back, even for an old fart like yourself.
Curtis: Talk all you want, I won't need six bullets for you.
Dan: Or four for you.</span>

(I am guessing you mean Seth McFarlane)
You have a source for that? Because they aren't. They have different characters, different humor styles, different approaches. If someone can point out how they _are_ the same show, I'd be happy to see how they are arguing that point. <p><hr />

I have never seen American Dad! What with it being television and all. Family Guy is funny, though. Nontheless, I am very sad about Stewie. Everyone seems to think he's the best thing ever, and really it just isn't the case. Stupid shallow wannabe 'dark and sinister' motherfuckers. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Hooray, someone found a source.
Okay, to elaborate seriously, I can see how AD! can be seen as a different show from FG due to less focus on random, spontaneous humor and more on reality-based political humor. I get that.
However, same basic family setup (with some deviations from FG to make it seem more original) and, generally, same basic plot setup of Stan/Peter getting an idea/having the chance to do something stupid, doing it, and screwing things up, but everything is made okay by the end. AD! can be considered a different show, though it's obviously not an original, different show.
On a sidenote, am I the only one disappointed with the newer Family Guy episodes? It honestly felt like they were trying a bit too hard to make it 'funny'. This can only lead to 'not funny'. Hell, The Simpsons had about seven or eight good seasons before slowly beginning to lose its sense of humor. <p><hr />

I actually like FG better than American Dad! mostly because while they're both somewhat formulaic, AD!, as far I'm concerned, has only one joke: "We're crazy conservatives!"
Given that that line of thinking and the fact that people like that actually exist is more
depressing to me than anything else, I find it's less laugh-worthy and more facepalm-worthy. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">

Ah, all right, I can grant that they are similar in that sense. (And thanks, AM, for finding a source on that.) But by that logic, Family Guy's the same show as the Simpsons; they've got pretty much the same family type and most episodes can be summed up with that same formula. If you grant the replacement of Stan/Peter with <random Simpson>, rather than Homer specifically, at least. Not that that's necessarily an argument against it, of course; I know that's a criticism people have been making against Family Guy for a while. <p><hr />

All that really needs to be said about that...
In "The Italian Bob", Peter Griffin is shown in a book of criminals with the charge of "Plagiarismo" (Plagiarism) and Stan Smith, of American Dad!, is shown with the charge of "Plagiarismo Di Plagiarismo" (Plagiarism of Plagiarism). <p><hr />
