Cave Story for GBA/DS/PSP?

Unread postby Endesu » Mon Mar 27, 2006 4:29 pm

Maybe you know about it already, maybe you don't, but...

Dig it.
Sourced from here.

If this comes to pass and is done right, I personally believe it'll turn out to be awesome. I'd love to be able to play CS on the go. <p>

Dan: Yeah, you've changed a lot too, into an old man! I went to see the devil, now it's your turn!
Curtis: Oh, my pupil, so tenacious of life, guess I have to kill you again.
Dan: Shut up, before you run out of breath!
Curtis: I got rid of those smiles, there's no one left to disturb our game. Just you, and me.
Dan: Sounds fair, 'cuz I hate holding back, even for an old fart like yourself.
Curtis: Talk all you want, I won't need six bullets for you.
Dan: Or four for you.</span>

I am pretty much done playing Cave Story for the next decade, really. Great game, but I've done all I'm going to do with it. If they release a game that looks as dated as Cave Story looks on a modern console, they had better sure as fuck clean it up a bit. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. No way should they 'clean it up' so to speak. Part of the games beauty is it's simplicty. For a game that uses so few colors and is such low rez, you gotta admit that it's pretty damn sweet lookin'. Fuck, that game's got more artistic flair then a great deal of what's being shat out nowadays.

Now, if they did decide to do an 'extra crispy' version but still kept the 'original recipie' version on the same cart, then I'd be fine with that.

Oh, and more on topic with the original subject: It's about time. Nice to see some of the fringe gaming get some of the respect it's due.

...on the down side, this and Megaman: Powered up are going to force me into buying a PSP I can't afford.

Quote:
Original Flavor vs. Extra Tasty Crispy: Would the game be wholly original, or will it keep to the original formula? The answer is yes. You can have your cake and eat it too. More people need to be able to play the game in the manner it was originally created. We intend to help with that.

I've heard (though this should obviously be taken with a grain of salt) that there will be an "Arranged Mode", likely with refined graphics, remixed music, animated cutscenes, and the like. So it likely wouldn't be true to say that CS for (whatever portable system it's coming out on) won't be exactly the same as it was on the PC. <p><hr />

I like how they told the guy 'you want to make a homebrew GBA version? Uh, we're not gonna stop you.' <p><Chat> <Matto says, "What's up?"

I would agree with Rube, and honestly, I don't see why it would have to be "cleaned up". What would be the point? If they want to, that's fine, but as he said, I would hope they would keep the original as an option as well. <p><hr />

Apparently Pixel never actually agreed to anything. <p><hr />
