I've learned of this game.

Why did none of you find it first? Either way, I share.

It's a game, which basically lets you PLAY THROUGH EVOLUTION.

More later.

I've heard of this before, but the video has got me really excited about what is actually possible.

However, the online aspect of it has me wondering how the 'other people' factor is gonna ruin it.

Yes, but whole forums could make their own solar systems and such, is what I was thinking of. It'd be hilarious to watch, either way.

I don't know why no one making a post about a game = nobody knowing it exists. I figured almost everyone here was capable of checking the internet for new releases. Either way, I plan on playing this game someday, as it is very rad looking.

the level of creative freedom in this game is awesome.
don't kill for saying this, but i bet the're will be like a million of players making furry characters for this game.
i mean, if you can make a care bear, you might as well make other humanoid animals/stuff.

for me, can't wait to make some of my creatures for it.

LAMBO SWIMS LIKE A BRICK!!

Quoted from Wikipedia:
Wright calls the game a "massively single player online game". Simultaneous multiplayer gaming is not a feature of Spore. The creatures, vehicles, and buildings the player can create will be uploaded automatically to a central database (or a peer-to-peer system), catalogued and rated for quality (based on how many users have downloaded the object or creature in question), and then re-distributed to populate other player's games. The data transmitted will be extremely small, only 1 kilobyte according to Wright. (Think of it as sharing the DNA template of a creature while the game builds the animal itself, which represents a few megabytes of texturing, animation, etc.) When the player progresses to a new stage, Spore will import creatures as needed. For example, if a flying carnivore is needed to balance the ecosystem, a creature that fits that description will be downloaded. The editor also allows the player to design things ranging from species to custom buildings and vehicles. That includes tanks, aircraft, submarines, boats, and UFOs. If the player has no internet connection, Wright mentioned, it is possible to fit tens of thousands of objects and creatures on the game's disc itself, due to their small size. This means that people with no Internet connection should still have a balanced ecosystem, even if it happens to be far more limited in diversity.

In other words, other people can't ruin it, because it's not really an online game--you can't affect other people's game experience negatively in any way, only create awesome things that might get incorporated into the "collective world."

Additionally, since it's a "creative software toy simulation game" there's no wrong way to play it, so the prospect of creating a T-rex to eat the world is pretty entertaining. Though I imagine it would be more awesome to get to the UFO endgame stage and play god with all the poor little creatures. Depending on how detailed the game can get, it'd be fun to, for example, guide some analogous race to the Egyptians to build the pyramids. :D

Image

Hell yeah I'd like this game. It's.... wow. Wow.

I can't see myself being afraid of other peoples creations for this. If I honestly find something so uber that it's a threat to my world because I discovered it, I'll just put a little spin on what the designer was sayying:

Pick one of their people up, fly off, and recombine DNA. Now I can make a small army of people with their characteristics, and set those people against them. Or just blow them up. Since it's all asynchronous, no one's going to start greifing you because their angry civilization tried to blow yours up and you dealt with it; Near as I can tell, foriegn content doesn't become a problem until you allow it to be.

... Also: Am I the only one who would be tempted to blow up their own world, for shits and giggles?

Image

Well, Brian's quote did mention that ratings will be based on times downloaded, which should mean that you and I will be free to download each other's races.

I will be attempting to create something as close to the Protoss (at least physically) as possible.
-_-___-___-___-_-

This is entirely possible.

I dunno if that's gonna be an option, though. That's why I'm not even considering that they'll let me have them feed off the psionic emanations of other organisms like the real Protoss.
-_-___-___-___-_-
