A DDR machine, IIRC, retails for about $6000 USD.

When public schools in the US are paying their teachers something on the order of $40,000 annually and can barely afford to do things like bus students and purchase textbooks, I don't think DDR is a budget priority. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center"></div>

While the mats might not last long, they're insanely cheap to replace- I got a set on eBay for five bucks AFTER shipping. So $6000 for one nice metal machine that will cost $6000 to replace, or 1200 pairs of $5 vinyl and plastic mats? You decide! <p><div style="text-align:center"></div></p>

Oh no; those aren't the shitty-ass vinyl pads. Those are the nice, metal-and-clear-plastic pads like Cobalt Blue sells. If memory serves, those pads are something like $110 apiece. Which really, considering their durability, isn't a bad deal. From what I've learned about the machines, you can buy them for about $500, if my memory serves me correctly, out of Hong Kong. My friends were looking into buying one 2 years ago, but we were poor. :(
