Holiday Hauls

Unread postby Nick Shogun » Sun Dec 25, 2005 6:24 am

Isn't that what Xmas/Kwanza/Channukah/Etc is really all about?

I was concerned that a topic of this nature, or at least a topic about the season festivities, wasn't already here, so I decided to be the forerunner of the MILLENIUM.

Nick Shogun's Haul:

1. Fight Club DVD
2. 50 CD Case-Holder
3. Kingdom of Heaven and Fantastic Four
4. Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet Marvel Select Figure
5. Hellboy TPB "Wake the Devil"
6. Sleek as HELL binoculars
7. Mortal Combat Sub-Zero/Scorpion Exclusive Two-Pack
8. New portable CD player (because I constantly break them)
9. Dane Cook CD/DVD
10. $100 Best Buy GC to buy a new, high-quality scanner
11. Day-planner
12. Shirts
13. $25 Suncoast GC
14. Touch-screen LCD Alarm Clock
15. Many CDs (Modest Mouse/Rent/Violent Femmes/Reel Big Fish)
16. Skies of Arcadia Legends for Gamecube
17. Marvel Legends Nightcrawler/Mr. Sinister
18. Spiderman "The Beetle" Figure
19. Subsciption to Netflix
20. DC Superheroes Lex Luthor/Copperhead/Mirror Master three-pack
21. Preordered Street Fighter Wave #4 (ships in February)

* Note that many of these presents were bought by me for myself.

Oh yeah, and...

Underwear (from two separate individuals)
A heavy hoodie (thermal lining and everything)
A winter jacket
A package of 7 socks
Harry Potter 1 and 2 on DVD (... uh... I already own these. And my mother won them, so they can't be returned. ... 40 bucks CDN for both?)
A gift card for a meat store, a book store and the movies
A belt
A bathrobe (my other one was too small...
PJ pants (reindeer on 'em)
And 300 bones from a fella who's owed me for years (I didn't have the heart to demand interest)

... other than video games (which is something I always GREATLY doubt I'll get), I got everything I wanted. My faith in Santa? SO totally bolstered!

... and I need socks and underwear. Who doesn't? <p><hr />

Money, something like $300 (most of which goes right in the bank account for college XP)
The greatest thing ever
A big bag of Skittles
Barnes and Noble card
Regal Cinemas gift certificate
Book stand

So, yeah. Most of what I got totally sucks. This was not a good holiday. My cousin gets Soul Caliber III. I get a book stand. That's fair. <p>-_-___-___-___-_-

- One less bit of financial stress now that my parents went ahead and paid off the remaining balance on that wreck I had last year.
- The Sacred Phoenix of Nephthys (a YGO card, for those who cared up until this moment. :b )
- A rainbow. Seriously, this HUGE one was out in the sky yesterday while I was on my way to dinner. It was surreal.
- Grenadier volume 1 box set (complete with "Blonde Tifa with Gun" Rushuna figurine.)

Not a NUMEROUS haul this year, but that first one trumped anything I could've gotten. <p>--

It's good to be back...the holidays were hell for me. I've got a relatively small haul this year, especially for my family, a clan of notorious spendthrifts (my dad bought himself 10 DVDs on the day before Christmas Eve). However, my most important piece of the haul was a little bit delayed by the Customs Department, and I recieved it early Thursday morning.

Gifts Recieved From Others
- 1x School of Rock Special Edition DVD
- 1x Napoleon Dynamite DVD
- 1x Office Space Special Edition [With Flair!] DVD
- 1x bag of Jelly Belly Jelly Beans (all of the good flavors eaten within the first hour)
- 1x white LED keychain light
- $140 cash

Gifts Bought For Self
- 1x Serenity DVD
- 1x Star Wars Battlefront II DVD Edition (PC)

The Most Important Gift Of All (to me, at least)
- 1x IBM Thinkpad T42p laptop, complete with 2.0gHz Pentium M processor, 60GB hard drive, 1GB RAM, 128MB ATI Mobility FireGL 2 video card, hybrid CD-RW/DVD-RAM drive, fingerprint scanner, and integrated wireless, as well as a spare battery and double battery charger. Customs delayed it for most of this week as it was shipped from Hong Kong, but it's already replaced my desktop. It's that good. <p><hr />"Whoa! Whoa whoa whoa! Teal'c! BULLETS BOUNCE!"
- Cameron Mitchell, Stargate SG-1</p>

Toys! Bubble blowy juice, light-up bouncy dice, and a 20 questions hand-held game which can correctly guess "ninja" and "kitty cat"! And peek-a-blocks! They're these blocks, with neat stuff inside which jiggle or turn or make noises. There's this one, with a little ant, scurrying off with a whole strawberry (it wiggles), and another, with an apple with a bite taken out of it (you can turn it at the bottom, so it looks like a whole apple or a bitten apple). Yeah, they're awesome. :0

...also, the family got the joint gift of a foosball table. That was darn fun to play.

Food! A can of corn! Continuing the precedent started last year, I got a can of corn in this year's stocking (different brand =O). Hooray! I also got generous portions of chocolate from Mike's brother--it was part of one of his gifts, but he shared, which was cool. Because, you know. Chocolate.

...also--meals! Home-cooked meals that -I- didn't have to cook. :D Also, also--Skyline! IT'S BEEN SO LONG! And------PAELLA! Real Spanish paella! Real paella absoludicrously overflowing with dead creatures, like chicken, pork, shrimp, grouper, scallops, mussels, clams, squid, and more I couldn't identify. A PETA nightmare! It was so tasty. n___n

Books! Mike's sister-in-law gave me a rosary and a book about Catholic Weddings. Mom Florida, a psychiatric nurse, had a few bits of psychiatric literature laying around that she let me have. Mike and I both received a batch of manga books, and weird card-disc things. Oh, and I got a recipe book thingy. It's neat. :0

Art! Mike and I got some origami tree ornaments from Granma and Granpa Santa as we left to head back to Georgia. Mike's sister also had given me a couple paintings she did during my stay--a night scene on wood, and a pumpkin on paper.

I got to meet my new brother-to-be, and witness the difference 6 months of age makes between the ages of 1 and 3 yrs, between Mike's youngest sister and brother and his visiting nephew. I also got lots of hugs. Repeatedly. There were lots of people for hugging, and they're a cool huggy family.

And, of course, there were three weeks with Mike, and coming back to Georgia with him. That was neat. Normally after a vacation, it's always been off to separate places, which kinda sucks.

So, yeah, that was my Christmas.

ON EBAY. Apparently some people that saved old shows like that burn them to DVD and sell them. They are just as awesome as I remember them... Fake anime looking stories of awesome fairy tales which are still a little more gruesome than Disney, a little less gruesome than the actual stories.
