IM clienty things...

Unread postby Kai » Fri Dec 23, 2005 8:48 pm

I'm having major problems with buggy AIMe things, and I was wondering what other IM clients are out there that wouldn't require me to install anything on the computer I'm using.

I've tried meebo, but it doesn't have a chat option, so it's no good for RPing. There are very few font/color options, but if I just wanted to IM with one or two people it'd otherwise be fine.

e-messenger.net is probably Satan. Shaun and I have not gotten a good impression from the "this works better if you turn all your popup blockers off WE SWEAR" business.

I have little to no chance of convincing the Powers That Be that installing Gaim is any better than AIM, which is actually quite sad.

Before I give up hope, I want to cast out the net around RPGWW and see if any of you have any ideas. <p>-------------------------

Trillian gets around the "you can't install stuff 'cos you're not an admin" restriction. At least it did at my university computer lab.

It's not that I'm unable to do it, because I've used gaim to get around that before. It's just that I'm on someone else's computer who has a huge IM client phobia. He won't let me install any IM-related thing. <p>-------------------------

I suggest tearing his limbs off till he comes around to reason. Mainly because I've got no idea what good browser based clients there are, if any such thing exists.

Carry around one of those Flash RAM sticks with all the required AIM files on that business. No installation, good times =D <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Good times assuming you have one of those, anyway. <p><div style="text-align:center">Image</div></p>

I think that limb-tearing, while an extreme solution, is probably the only avenue I've got. I'm having better luck with AIMe than I was previously, but since I don't have a flash doodad, I have nowhere to install an actual AIM program except for his hard drive.

This is why I was hoping there would be other options. AIMe is unfortunately the best choice right now, which is just plain depressing. <p>-------------------------

Yeah. Beyond that, you're pretty much restricting yourself to IRC, which still also is not sufficient. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. Because no one is using it, mostly.

Also, you'd still have to download mIRC or something unless there were a specific #RPGWW java ****** available, I believe.

Edit: Why the fuck did someone set the forum to censor the word a'pplet? <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">Image</div>

There are a lot of IRC java client apps out there, and a lot of them support server switching. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television.
