A: The supremacy of Christianity over all other faiths is not based on arrogance. It is simply based on facts. God has plainly said that Christianity is superior to all other faiths.

Check out the Rapture Index.

EDIT: Just noticed how old this was. Well... maybe someone hasn't read it. Now I'm off to rent Beyond Thunderdome! <p><div style="text-align:center">

*makes a note* Technically, all faiths claim to be superior to the rest. If you step out and say, "this is the way to live and be saved from death", you also say it's impossible for any other way to be saved from death to work.

I mean, think of it this way. If you are a Hebrew, you can't believe in reincarnation. You can share some of the values of other faiths, sure. It's hard not to have overlap when the whole idea is to breed peace in one's soul. But, you cannot be a proper Hebrew and retain beliefs contrary to the ones in the Talmud.

That said, no other faiths in America have their own political party (that actually has a chance of winning.) And yeah, they bludgeon people over the head with this stuff aaaaaaall the time. <p><hr />

Ironically, we're not supposed to be bludgeoning anyone with anything. Keep in mind that like any faith, we have stupid people in our numbers. If xMog claims to be Christian and claimed you to be an evil pagan and should die, would you judge me by him? :-/

*clicks links*

... And secondly, keep in mind that Rapture beleif is in controversy in the Christian community, despite what McHawking might tell you. I know he's totally unbiased and all, with his seething hatred for me, but please believe me when I say that being Christian does not mean you have to believe in the Drivel that's written down in the "Left Behind" series.

All of that said: Cha's pretty much right. It's hard to on the one hand say "I have the solution" and then on the other say "But I might be wrong and you might be right." ... Ironically, I think we're supposed to do just that though. I don't know if any of this helps at all, but... we're still human. We just happen to get more attention than other religous groups because alot of people think that Christian=Republican, which if it were true it would mean we had our own party. You'd be surprised how many Liberal Christians there are that this interpretation makes very sad.

I suppose the long and short of it is, you can't really generalize with Christianity. It's gotten too diverse for any stereotype to fit it anymore. <p><hr /><div style="text-align:center">Image</div></p>

*Reads the rapture index* .... Wow... It was higher in 2003 than it is now. How "prophetic" of them, to show a decline in how close we are to the rapture. I'd laugh if it was the year that was the lowest number had it happen, but then that'd actually mean they were right.... Crap... Good thing religious fanatics never really bother me.

Corrections!

Not all faiths presume to be exclusive. Hinduism, as one example, allows for a practitioner to practice multiple different faiths.

Furthermore, if a religion claimed to save people from death, then they would find themselves losing practitioners very quickly. As far as I have been able to divine, there is no person who has managed to simply and utterly escape death. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. You can't escape it, but I'm pretty sure Shini will dodge it, if you watch closely. >_>

Forgive my terminology. When I say "death", I quite literally mean the bad kind.

The faiths I'm familiar with relate dying without being a member of their order to dying poorly. This means hell, poor reincarnation, or an afterlife without 40 virgins. I'm being glib, of course, but you get my meaning. The faiths are trying to get us to heaven/nirvana/our own godhood and personal universe to lord over, what have you.

Cuz dying poorly sucks. <p><hr />

A word or two...

Unread postby Kai » Thu Jan 05, 2006 4:39 pm

Most religions, when taken only on the evidence of their texts and official rules, are much more open-minded than their extreme followers. This can be said about Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, all sorts of traditions.

In theory, religions exist to help people with whatever needs they can't fulfill in their everyday lives. In practice, the followers of all religions must fight to balance the validity of their own answers with the validity of the answers other people have found. The results of this struggle run the gamut from ultra-conservative closed-minded jackasses to mealy-mouthed cowards so afraid of offending others they never develop opinions or strong convictions of their own. <p>-------------------------

Opinions and convictions are totally overrated.

If no one had opinions then there'd be no arguments.

I'm almost tempted to challenge Cho for the position of 'King of Yalogank' <p><hr />

<span style="font-size:xx-small;">"Their rhetoric... You didn't put communists in his bed did you!" came Amber's indignant reply.

"Why not? All I had to do was open a gate to his bed and stick up a sign saying 'Hot virgin willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in the name of international socialist fraternity.'"</span>
