Famous Vending Machines of Japan

My favorite one sells Rhinoceros Beetles. Amazing! People pay money for bugs, when I can get them for free off of the dishes in my sink!

EDIT: Changed my mind... the TRULY BIZARRE vending machine is my favorite. Because it's BIZARRE. <p>---

Beetles are hugely popular here. Not the tiny ass ones you find on your dishes, but suckers the size of a hefty swiss army knife. And just as sharp.

I can find all but a few of these within 15 minutes walking distance from where I live. Some of them are obviously only in certain places (cell phone chargers = shopping centres, frequent flyer miles = airports, etc), and a few I think you'll only find in Tokyo.

If you can't see a vending machine in Japan, it means you're facing the wrong way. Seriously. You can be in the middle of goddamn nowhere, surrounded by nature and rice fields, with no visible source of power, and there will be a vending machine. And it'll say "Arigatou gozaimasu" (Thank you) when you buy from it.

Water Salad.

That's all I have to say. <p><span style="font-size:xx-small;">"It's in the air, in the headlines in the newspapers, in the blurry images on television. I can't read the label very well, but the water salad one is just fruit and vegetable juice, with a wacky Engrish name. But only 10% real juice.

I remember Water Salad! My travelling companion and I a few years back spent a bit of time daring each other to try it. I think he bought a bottle just to take home for posterity. <p>

tragic!

Unread postby Nick Shogun » Wed Oct 12, 2005 6:14 pm

Elusive in nature, the Vendilous Machinationus is a fearsome creature, stalking the dark corners of Japanese culture, finding its prey, often a Homo-Sapien known as Low-on Cashicus. It subdues its prey with affordable rewards, and then... it feeds. <p>---

We could totally pool our money together and commission Ursula Vernon to draw a vending machine in the wild. That'd be totally up her alley.

Bro and Mike know what I'm talking about. <p>

Can't we just take a trip to Japan and capture one, breed it whilst in captivity, then release it back into the wild and sell its young? <p><div style="text-align:center">

I like both of these ideas, but somehow Diane's seems slightly more practical. <p><div style="text-align:center">Image</div></p>

I wonder if Dia could get frequent fan discount? I am ninety percent certain UrsalaV would be all over this like stink on a monkey. Then put a hat on the monkey. <p>---------------------------
