Dogs and birds form a good team because they both dislike cats.

Not true! Some of us make educated conclusions.

Hey, cats are a respectable pet. Dogs on the other hand are mentally retarded beings who cause people no end of pain.

I guess all in all it depends on what sort you get. Cats, in my experience, do a lot of tearing shit up and peeing all over everything in turf wars with eachother. But a sufficiently stupid dog (chihuahuas fit here, for example) will largely do the same.

Solution? Get a Jack Russell terrier, or a mix thereof. Or a Border Collie. Females are more amicable, usually, than males.

Don't know anything about cats, though. Only met one I ever liked.

And almost everyone forgets the noble Ferret as a pet. Charming, quick witted, friendly and tough to swallow, it is a pet amoung pets.

Mutts are awesome. Purebreeds, not so much, unless you get one bred for intelligence, like some sort of sheepdog or something.

Say, why does anyone breed cats, anyway? Was there ever a point in history where cats were used to perform some kind of useful function?

They were also Gods. That was kinda useful.

There was a cat trained to keep away Dogs in our area, that was alos useful. Always fun watching these big hulking dogd being taken down by this cute wittle cat.

Tis cool at work because about half our team loves cats and the other half love dogs and the arguments they get into. Wheeee. Personally I wouldn't let anything furry, smelly and wet nosed run around my house, aside from myself.

I tend to like cats better if only because they don't make as much noise.

My cat eats bugs, or locates the ones out of her reach so I can kill them. I find this terribly useful.

Also, she makes a handy chest/leg/face warmer/suffocater.

So, y'see, my brother has a dog. Half Jack Russell terrier, half datshgermanword. It's the most annoying creature on the face of the planet. In conclusion, Jack Russel is fail! And also sounds like a brand of whiskey or something.

But then, I like kitties anyways. Kitties are fluffy, dogs are fuzzy! There's a major difference there.

The thing about Jack Russels and Jack Russel mixes is that they are endless energy from birth until death. You do not get one of these dogs unless you plan to walk them 5+ times a day and/or have a huge amount of land to let them roam.

Mom/Dad/my brother has/have a Jack Russel mix which is a pretty good dog. Annoying, yes, but pretty sweet. She's been trained not to bark (lived in an apartment, which is not where a JR should live) and keeps the older Golden Retriever energetic and/or annoyed by playing and competing with her. She'll rip things up, though, if she's not given other means of expending energy, and she is extremely needy on certain people (my brother, Mom, my aunt).
