5 Tzelara, 1750 P.E.

The trouble began when he realized that he had no head.

Oh, the physical probing of his fingers yielded sensory evidence; the deep crevasses and contours that detailed his present but unseen cranium readily betrayed his age but the damning evidence remained there, in the mirror: he had no head.

The rest of his body was certainly present, looking as healthy as he had last left it before the night's rest. But the trouble came ...

(Since I've had this sitting in the land of back-upfor a fair while, I figure I might as well post it back up again.)

It had been a quiet week, spent relaxing, and unwinding from the state of perpetual tension in which he lived. Kelne had gone fishing. He'd been most annoyed when some idiot fish had gotten itself stuck on his hook, threatening to spoil the tranquility. But that annoyance had been short-lived. And ...

Charles and I started working on this fic, and Lex is going to help out, so I'm moving it to the board where we can all get to it. Makes more sense than emailing. Anyway. Story GO.

Andrea could almost hear the explosions ringing out across the ruined cityscape, smashing buildings to still smaller units of rubble whenever they struck. Which was often, since all the pilots were making the utmost use of cover. Except, of course, that this wasn't a live-fire exercise, and the explosions were all in her mind.

Which made it easier to concentrate, at least, she reflected as she corrected her aim and sent another trio of mortar ...

Chizuna and Akira Shigetomi had been more religious that the average Nekonian couple, or so their son would later claim. Not that he had much evidence.
